this piece's title can be abbreviated FFFFF, which also happens to be the average dynamic of the piece

Only John Mackey can produce a song that makes you regret choosing to play a woodwind instrument over a brass one.

We played this for our marching band show and it was awesome! There were woodwind parts in our show. But you should know, woodwinds are the best anyways!

I can't begin to tell you, as someone who began his time in drum corps in 1960, and who aged out in Viet Nam the year DCI came into being, how insanely great it is to see someone of your stature "inspired" by the marching activity. It has been a long haul, complete with "purists" who thought DCI was selling out to the establishment with its acceptance of multi-keyed instruments (including my brother, who was a hot trombonist, but thought drum corps should play on "bugles"). As a member of the very traditionalist "Buglers' Hall of Fame" and "World Drum Corps Hall of Fame" and a former DCI instructor and arranger, I applaud your honesty and sincerity in letting the "legit" musical world know that our activity, long the bastard child of American music, has something to offer in the way of creativity and heart. Keep it up. I dig your stuff - plus you've turned me on to this Columbus State Trombone Studio - whoa! And that Bass! Yowsa... Hope my daughter gets to talk to you at TMEA next week. (Synth and last year's vocal soloist for the Crossmen).

This is like so not the style that mackey usually writes in! I would have never guessed this was by mackey! Oh wait, nevermind, I heard all those trombone glissandos, that's a dead give away. 😂

Mr. Mackey, I think you might need a sub-contrabass tuba for those parts! (For reference: c1.staticflickr.com/1/9/12766770_3016bc9975_z.jpg?zz=1)

+John Mackey I usually like your music, but I can't stand that farting trombone that's so low. It ruins the piece for me.
@JohnMackey
@JohnMackey 8 жыл бұрын
+RedstoneManiac It's a contrabass trombone. That sound is kind of the point of using the instrument. (I personally think it's an incredible sound. You usually only hear it in film soundtracks - but you hear it in those all the time.)
@RedstoneManiac13
@RedstoneManiac13 8 жыл бұрын
+John Mackey I know, but It';s too present. Some incredible sounds for me, at least, include a bowed vibraphone with an alto flute, as well as A trumpet screaming with a mellophone in unison. But I keep listening to it, so I don't know what it is.
