Mayer is the greatest. Proof that a celebrity can come down from being so egotistical to one of the most level-headed, down to earth guys. Plus the fact his fits are always what he is into is just inspiring. Find what you like and make your own drip with it. When Jerry talked about being 'depressed' during making the Nike collab tho, smh.. what was that about

@Justin-qp6jq
@Justin-qp6jq 5 жыл бұрын
@@Sturnburn772 I completely agree that he meant that, but to go as far to say "I may need to go to the hospital" and "worst year of my life" in my opinion means he needs a pretty big reality check. How about those people who lost their houses - or worse - in the fires in Cali, pretty sure you being stressed from getting to design a shoe for Nike is nothing compared to something like that. Words should be chosen more carefully. Maybe saying something like, "I have never experienced creative stress as I did from this project to the point of mental exhaustion. I needed to take a step back and breathe. I would think twice about doing it again." Makes way more sense. Which I think is the difference between him and Mayer, the way they use their words. Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I really respect John’s initiative to speak directly about Kanye after Joe posed a question insinuating Kanye. What John was saying about the need to discuss Kanye that people tend to step away from is so true. I also very much respect Jerry’s love for Kanye as a close friend to not speak negatively about him or outright bash him. Both of these guys just radiate class and creativity so much.

This isn’t a “who’s smarter” or “who’s better” scenario and I think we should stop painting that narrative because you’ll rob yourself of what you can learn from both of these creative geniuses. Don’t hear both of them, LISTEN to both of them, learn from both of them and add it to your life/personal goals. They’re small “disagreement” didn't make either of them right or wrong. They’re just two different perspectives within an art that can be very synonymous. That’s it. Everyone’s thought process, opinions, views, way of expression, etc isn’t supposed to be the same. If it was we’d be bored with each other. We’re lucky to listen to an interview with these two gifted gentlemen.

The most appealing concept behind this interview - to me - was the idea of free thought. Which John has in droves. There was no agenda he had in mind other than being himself. I felt Lorenzo had a tendency to want to talk about his brand though, without any legitimate evidence of his passion for either the fashion, sports, or hip-hop culture - at least for someone on the outside looking in like myself. I don't know him, first time hearing of FoG. One of the things that I respect about John Mayer isn't just his creative musicianship. He's incredibly intellectual and a student of humanity itself. The human experience being the core of all artistic expression.
@therealgentlemensclub

Pretty well said my friend. Mayor has been able to take things a bit deeper. Mix that deepness in with a celebrity and performing music artist and that is John. Its hard to say it any differently, but he is on another level intellectually. Everyone is different though. Jerry I believe is one of the best designers to do it. His simplicity and even John said it about the touch on his jackets. It's really a calming brilliance. Respect to both for sure. I was uncomfortable for Jerry and Joe, but enjoyed hearing John talk about such relevant information and culture.

There were many nuggets that I took away... the one that stood out to me is how an artist must step away a bit to come back stronger. I agree with John’s point as I go through this in business. There is always someone that wants to be center of attention. I’m not that guy so I sit back and let them have their moment. Eventually, they fizzle out and people seek you out for wisdom. I have seen this over and over again. I forget who said this but, you must have the courage to speak up but the wisdom to stand down.

This interview was refreshing. I understood what John and Jerry were saying even if I disgreed on something slightly. For the most part you couldn’t really argure with what was said because it was all observational. They are both right. I think from the music to fashion industry discussion the concept of “familiarity” absolutely exists on both sides equally. Proposing new ideas and putting abstract ideas out comes with a lot of heat and is quite hard at times - but if you end up finding “it” you have it. I think all art has that. When something that is singular is executed well some elements used emanate and can become the norm. John may have felt that fashion doesn’t hold that same “you have to earn it,” but it definitely does... I see where he was coming from though as it can be very difficult to earn excitement in the music industry for the long haul. People know what “FOG” stands for and will buy into that all itself, but he had to earn that. Many people know from Jerry’s earlier collections that some pieces he put out we weren’t seeing everywhere, and nowadays when we see his clothing we know it’s him. It became a part of culture. Same with John and his music! Sorry for the rant. This interview made me excited, and I never get excited about things anymore cause I’m dead inside. Have a good one.

Eddie Mac Two minds? Either Mayer has a hidden siamese twin that only you know about or you saw a different video. Just like Trump calling the media the enemy of the people because they made him look bad.

Eddie Mac He’s not passionate man, he’s disengaged because he only wanted to easily plug his product and didn’t expect to actually think critically. @eddiemac102
@eddiemac102 5 жыл бұрын
@@eye_need_jesus817 I don't think either of them thought of this as a debate or a fight as you say. Just disagreements in certain ideas and learning from each other. For example, Mayer asking him about the 2 pieces of clothing with one being blank and the other having FOG on it. I agreed with Mayer about how the culture gravitates to name brands but I also agreed with Jerry about putting your all into whatever you do and not simply relying on the name brand and reputation of it. So I don't want to just act like good information is only coming from John. But yeah, Jerry did sound a little shabby with some of his talking points.

Eddie Mac That was Mayer calling him out for ripping of designs from Rick Owens and literary screen printing Fear of God on vintage T-shirts for Maxfeiled and selling them for hundreds. Jerry is a scammer and has been putting down other creators the past two years, this was a moment for the culture where Jerry’s the one getting bullied

Artists: We want your money even when we make garbage is the same as pieces that break current expectations don't sell. Genius and stupidity walk on the same line. It's pretty much up to the people to decide which part of that line it lands in.
