What a lifetime honor and achievement for John!! His joining Dead & Company has been a gift that keeps on giving. He so graciously and seamlessly slid right into Jerry's 'big shoes.' He's filling them honorably, humbly and so well. I love him! Blessed to be A Creative Genius, A Master, The Man and THE KING ❣💡🌟💎👑

My dad saw the dead in the wall of sound era, when we saw Dead and Co he said if he closed his eyes he would’ve sworn Garcia was playing guitar. That’s a special memory for me, he introduced me to the dead

I saw John Mayer with Dead and Company in his first show at MSG in NYC on Halloween Night ‘15. TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY!!!! His channelling of the late great Jerry Garcia was absolutely COSMIC! Sure it was his traditional PRS, but his melodies, vocals, and ability to “Travel” with the jams, well just astounding! I had seen GD many times in the 70’s and 80’s and Johns playing just felt “Right”. And now playing a new “Wolf”? Just amazing.

FWIW, John talks about Wolf a lot more with Dean Delray on DD's podcast, Let There Be Talk, episodes 501 and 502, and that's what the except that Justin read here is from.

I knew Bill Asher back in the mid-80’s, very cool guy. Glad to see he’s involved with this project. These Wolf guitars are playable pieces of art, gotta wonder how many of them actually see any actual road and touring time. Great post, thanks for sharing!

Also might be worth a mention that this isn’t the first wolf inspired guitar John has actually used. He used one for Something like Olivia live on Letterman. Not quite as faith a recreation as this one but just an interesting thing to note

100% agree. Especially the Silver one. At 1st I did Not even like the tone, and felt it was pitchy and unpleasant at times, BUT 5 pick-ups will (should) give lots-o-options, and things did sound overall pretty decent & good on songs like Deal, Love Each Other, Dew, Casey, Althea, Eyes, and Terrapin to call out some of the better ones. As you said, time will tell. My hope is that he Does NOT use it exclusively on this tour, but rather mixes it in.

As much as I love Jerry Garcia, I just don't see any custom guitar worth more than 5000 definitely not even 3000 in materials and I wouldn't pay it if I was rich ,unless it was for charity or something like that.i with i could charge my customers 18k for a custom brake job because I am a technician with 45 years experience 😆 🤣 😂 lol.i have much love for guitars 🎸 but I personally wouldn't pay that ,but ill buy 5 guitars with 18k and some gear, amplifiers and such.great looking guitar breathtaking 😍 lucky folks who can afford such beauty. Rip mr Garcia a originator in his own unique sound thats for 👍 sure....✌ peace

I get the whole 'it was built by Irwin' and all that, but 22K? I've seen Tigers going for 15k and up! I suppose if I had the disposable income I'd at least be tempted but, I still couldn't justify it - Not with the equipment I have now. With all my inexperienced experimenting, I've come in at around 4 or 5k minus the experimentation/repairs if I had to buy it all and have the work done now and that includes a vintage twin and elite strat with some individual mods and a few nice pedals. Does it sound exactly like Jerry?... No, but the set up sounds and plays stunningly beautiful - to the point that if it did sound exactly like Jerry, I'd be a bit disappointed. Funny thing was that I didn't start out trying to play any Dead - I was trying to create a versatile rig for more of a classic hard rock/southern rock/blues thing, (humbuckers-push/push pots to split the coils-treble bleed-blaster) and ended up with something that didn't give me exactly what I wanted in that regard but, it more than filled the bill when it came to playing some Jerry - Absolutely gorgeous and purely accidental. I was fooling around one day and bought a lesson on Althea - made a few tweaks to a pedal or two and I was exquisitely blown away, almost to the point of tears. Just the natural compression I have now and the sound of the wood through the amp - So Very Lucky. I suspect that if I plugged the thing into a marshal head and my OX, I'd be just as pleasantly surprised.

@eddie3064
@eddie3064 Жыл бұрын
@@mstevensn50 I've been a huge Steve Kimock fan for 25 years, but Steve wouldn't have been the right choice for Dead and Co. He was fine for Rat Dog when Mark Karan has medical issues, but not for Dead and Co. First off, they needed a vocalist and Steve doesn't sing a lick, not even background vocals. Bob could never handle all the vocals these days, his vocal range is shot and his stamina at his age is waaaay down. Steve also has no where near the chops he once did. Listen to him in the last few years, he's a shell of himself. He's now more a noodler than anything else. The latest Jazz is Dead is a perfect example. At one time Steve was one of the best. He was magical. Those days are long gone. Mayer was the right move and I'm not even a big fan of his solo work. John and Oteil injected new life into the band when they formed 6 or 7 years ago. That said, this incarnation has definitely run its course. The tempo is painfully slow. I've been a Dead since 1976 and I've seen it all. Great run, but its over...

@@eddie3064 you know that saying if your afraid to offend someone you can't be honest. Sorry I didn't mean to hurt your masculinity would you like a tissue. I tell it like I see it and hear it, and yes I am a musician. He couldn't play a lick to save his own ass. And that is an honest comment.
