I love watching John Mayer evolve throughout his career. You can hear so many influences as he ages. That Derek Trucks-like run at 0:45 was just nuts.

@@noreaction1 Stevie ray vaughn doesn’t play like Mayer and Mayer doesn’t play like SRV although I have seen him do a couple SRV songs live about 12 years ago that were really impressive. Bottom line is There two completely different type of players.

So much influences in this solo by John, like Derek truck kinda runs, srv intensity, Albert King intense bend, clapton’s licks ! He’s the best so far now john you are the best !

If I ever get to sit and talk with John, I. Would definitely tell him that I think is one of his greatest solos ever. He really tapped into Jimi and Stevie both that night. Really wish I could have been there in person

Yes they melt it into the Stairway final verse and chord progression. I was pleasantly surprised too. Am, G and E for both ( Chord progression of All Along the Watchtower & Stairway's final verse) I think. Kudos to these guys for keeping vintage Rock'n'Roll alive in this age of Trance, Electronica n whatever crap is the fad these days.

You can see how he struggles a little bit to get back into it bc he misses a note for a second there. (0:35) it happens. But then he gets back in the game (1:54) with that f*cking heavenly solo. one of the best solos I’ve heard by John and I’ve heard a lot, that’s what makes him one of the greatest of all time. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Tom Sangiorgio Yes! At first i was a bit bummed that it takes so long to release his upcoming album, but since I've seen his latest performances and his view on the matter, I agree that it's the best thing for both him and for us fans. He is learning so much as a musician and a guitarplayer. He said he now feels more comfortable while playing guitar and writing songs with lots of guitarplaying. He said we can expect more guitarwork on his upcoming album :) And yes, I'm VERY excited to see what he will show the world during the Dead and Company tour. Too sad I live in the Netherlands, so I won't be able to attend a show :(

+bdubstep If you want to see JM playing a PRS type in John Mayer on Periscope...PRS...that should do the trick....Like a lot of other great artists John has maybe looked past the Fender as a sole source provider..

It's 1960's strat he aquired a year or two ago, maybe three years but yeah the one he got in 1996 was an SRV model so it's not this one :)

+Satya Acharya he's been known for using RMC-8 Wah pedals if he's using a manual wah. But it could also be a standard crybaby for all we know. He's also a fan of the EHX q-tron for the auto-wah stuff
