At Morpheyes Studio we are humbled, honored, and excited that many of you took the time to share your stories with us and the community. This series would not be possible without your enthusiasm and vulnerability. Our aim is to show young Deaf Queer people that they are not alone in the world and give them hope through representation.
Here is one of the many beautiful stories shared with us -- by John McGinty!
DESCRIPTIVE TRANSCRIPT:
(The logo of a heart with Pride flag stripes and an outline of an ear in one half of the heart appears on a white background again. The heart logo spins and slides left and right, revealing the words “DEAF + QUEER” in funky black lettering. The heart logo slides up above the title. Then appears a person with long blonde straight hair wearing a black tank shirt, in front of a white wall.)
I am so proud to be Deaf and Queer. Why? There are two reasons. The first is that both worlds make me who I am. And the second is that I can love and cherish myself more. When I look back on my past, I can tell that my life has actually become better. I watched my friends, my family, and many members of the community start to value and embrace me. Now I feel connections with each of those people on a deeper level. My favorite Pride memory is when my husband and I went to the Pride Parade together. Every time we go I always see new faces, and they’re all radiant and unified even though everyone is so different. With everyone included we make a single, strong community. Each year as we progress and the community grows, we become more powerful. I want to let you know directly that if you ever need help, need resources, or need support, please know that we are here for you, trubiz. We send love and we will always cherish you, no matter who you are.
