Props to Andrew Yang for being intellectually open rather than ideologically close-minded.

I'm a right of center libertarian, and man oh man- I find Yang's thoughtful, kind intellectualism so damned refreshing. I hope he continues to forge ahead in the political sphere. We need more like him.

As a black middle-class man, I definitely needed this interview.

I'm a mixed woman & live in NYC, like John's daughters. We really need to elevate rational voices like his. My parents are professors & in medicine. I grew up with more privilege than most. Point is, this media messaging that anyone brown is put-upon and needs lower standards is not helpful. 10 years ago, I felt like I was treated normally, whereas now I notice wht folks treating me with kid gloves, like I'm a pet or token. I just want it to stop

I absolutely can't stress enough how encouraging it is to have Yang engaging with these voices! John nearly single-handedly kept my sanity intact during the madness of 2020.

I’m taking a Linguistics class with Dr. McWhorter at Columbia this semester and let me tell y’all, he is just as compelling to listen to and speak with each day as he is in this interview. One of the sharpest minds I’ve met.

Depending on who's asking, I could be construed a "Republican" or a "Democrat". Andrew Yang, you would have my vote.

John McWhorter is such an important person for the time we're in: calm, reasonable, fair, level-headed. If anyone can speak in a convincing way to people of all political beliefs and help break the spell of woke madness that has infected this country, it's him.

Great interview. One of my favorite things about Andrew Yang is that he has always had this intellectual honesty about him. And he tends to attract others who have high intellectual honesty. Sorely needed in today's politics, left and right.

I grew up the only white family on an Apache reservation. At school I was picked on specifically for the way I looked. Later in life we moved from the reservation, to a predominantly black/brown neighborhood. Where again I was picked on for being one of the only white kids. I think it’s just human nature to a certain extent to view difference with suspicion. I also made many friends and gained a great sense of what it feels like to be discriminated against based only on skin color or outer appearance. I learned to take and make jokes. Not take myself too seriously. And that there is a huge difference between people with ordinary everyday ignorance and a truly hateful person. Great conversation! I really enjoyed it.

I was a life long Dem until wokeness. this podcast should be required viewing.

I am so jealous of all the kids that get to take classes with Professor McWhorter. Brilliant and funny. The ultimate professor combo.

It's so refreshing to hear two adult intellectuals have a civil conversation about "Wokeness" without the yelling, shouting, breaking things and virtue signalling.

McWhorter is one of my favorite people. It's so rare to have a public intellectual like him in the modern day who is both willing to speak his mind on these "dangerous" topics and who has such a reasonable, crystal clear and measured perspective. Before stumbling upon him on KZfaq several years ago, I'd thought that type of intellectual was extinct. When he says that he's not saying anything that so-and-so people aren't already thinking but are afraid to say, I think he's correct on many points, but not all. He has some genuine insight and it's more than just having the moxy to speak up against the mob.

After Yang got buried by the establishment pundits during the 2020 democratic primary, it unfortunately seemed like he bent the knee and accepted their consultants into his campaign/movement. Seeing these “controversial” interviews gives me hope that Yang is back to his authentic problem-solving self that made a unique voice in our political discourse

I'm so glad that John and Andrew connected and made this so that their reasonable and solution focused message could be shared. Andrew needs to continue to be vocal about this as an Asian man, he has a unique opportunity to challenge and direct the narrative away from black vs white to unity for all and that America is open to everyone.

Andrew Yang is always evolving innovating and getting more knowledgeable about the world each and every day and that's what I love about him. Let's go Andrew Yang keep moving forward to make the world a better place!

Thank you for addressing the issue with black boys! I am an elementary teacher in a school where I see this! We need to hold the children accountable for their behavior but also help them learn. Excusing it because of their color does not help them. We only enable them and hurt the other children in the meantime. Love them enough to guide them.

Crazy timing for me to hear about this. I was just in the TYT comment section explaining these concepts to those woke racists last week. TYT was saying people were delusional republicans because of white privilege and people attacked me for calling that out as racist. I hope this book is a sign of more people realizing how far they've gone.

I'm not completely on board with some of Andrew's ideas but there is no denying the man has integrity and principles. It makes me sad that exactly because of that he will not be allowed a place at the big table. I sincerely hope that changes.

I don't know where I've been that I missed Yang having a show, but I'm here for it! Having John on says something great about it already.

So glad you're doing this. We have mutual friends that believe in CRT. They stopped talking to me because I defended the individual. They think I'm racist because I don't believe in judging all white people by the color of their skin. My hope is that since I'm not the only one in their lives who believes this, they will come to the realization that maybe, just maybe, it's wrong to judge people by the color of their skin. Keep at it Andrew!

As a lifelong conservative white female, it's beyond frustrating for anyone to assign ill motives and intent to me just because I am white, then claim I am the one who is racist. People who don't even know me seem to think they can read my mind. There's no point arguing with them because they're so convinced I'm the bad guy, they won't hear what I have to say. That is not a conversation. So I say nothing and just walk away. I'm done trying to have a rational discussion about it.

This was by far the most insightful discussion on racism I've ever watched. For those of you who aren't familiar with Professor McWhorter, he has a brilliant set of lectures called "The Story of Human Language" produced by The Teaching Company, aka The Great Courses. I'm super glad to have stumbled across this video.

I’ve been watching John in his conversations w/ Glen for years. Despite his penetrating insight into many of today’s most significant political and social problems, he seems like a genuinely nice guy with whom it would be marvelous to share a bottle of wine and conversation.

What a relief to see this interview. Looking forward to the day when woke racism and racist identity politics is in the dustbins of history.

I have listened to many ideas about race ( mostly by force at my workplace). This was the most productive conversation I’ve heard, by a mile! Nuanced and honest.

What I find refreshing about this party is the tone of conversation. It's amicable, reasonable, and honest. It has purpose and ambitions, with an objective, but the objective is not being muddled with petty dispute. Where I find even my favorite news commentators slipping, this initiative seems laser focused on the issues facing Americans, and less concerned with superficial titles that are ultimately used solely to otherise and create tribes of dissent than of unity. Days before Andrew released this initiative, "Forward" was a motif in my comments. There are forward thinkers in every sect of society, in every nation. This movement isn't limited to those carrying the torch leading the way. The movement is guided by the will of the people who are all collectively making individual steps forward. I hope people will be inspired, and possess courage enough to run for office under the Forward Party. Advocate for local changes. I've heard the saying "You can't reinvent the wheel." Well, last time I checked we weren't riding around in wooden wagons. It's odd to be ruled by political thought, as old as wagon wheels.

This is a breath of fresh air. Please please, after 2 years of peak frustration we need more of this

Great discussion and I ordered the book. The racism of today is a lot deeper than race. I grew up in a world where being Catholic/Protestant or Italian/Irish vastly outweighed being white/black. I grew up in a world where when you first met someone the second question they always had was "what are you?" So whatever racism is, it stems from something a lot deeper than skin color. Hope that makes sense.

John McWhorter could be the most consequential black American since Dr. King.

A bunch of studies have shown it's better to go to second tier "sub ivy" schools, because kids get to be a big fish in a smaller pond, which raises their confidence versus being in the bottom half of Harvard. My friend was in the bottom half of her law school class and the Dean got up and said only the top third of students should expect to become practicing lawyers. Her confidence was utterly decimated and indeed she never ended up practicing law and had to work for 10+ years to dig out of law school debt.

I got a degree in a STEM field. I am not a rich, but I am middle class. I enjoy my life, warts and all. Just because you do not get into an Elite University does not mean it is the end of the world.

I am seeing the Arts funding in the US being decimated by a layer of Equity consultants. It’s absolutely absurd and nothing but destructive. What can I do to personally as an artist to push back against this monolith ? Artists are extremely frustrated with having there work being shaped and used by politicians,oligarchs and bureaucrats.

We need more people like Yang and McWhorter. I totally agreed with John on the issue of which college to go to. I have two kids in a competitive university and while my daughter worked well there, in hindsight I think that my son would have done much better in a less competitive environment. Matching the right level of competition to the right academic level and personality is the only way to go. This applies to all races.

I’m so proud of Andrew yang for escaping the clutches of the democrats. A lot of people are leaving both parties due to just pure bs of both parties not acting like adults. They rather fight like kids and embarrass themselves in front of the entire world. Mr Yang please continue to be a shining hope for everyone in the world. And John I loves you

35:21 - at my "prestigious" journalism school, I brought up something along these lines in a diversity in media class. The teacher immediately and directly called me "racist" and assigned additional coursework on the spot. I was only asking for additional perspective and info out of genuine concern and in an attempt to better understand the bias. Instead I ended up branded and ostracized. I have never been able to shake the feeling that the establishment of academia and the news media just don't care about reality unless it's salacious or palatable. This was years before cancel culture took off, so I escaped relatively unscathed, all things considered. John's words here give me validation all these years later. Thanks for the interview, Andrew, and for the important book, John. Just ordered my copy.

Just Great! This was the best dialogue professor McWhorter has presented his ideas and views about "Woke" people and his solutions.
