You gotta love when a world class guitarist leaves his ego at home and can have fun, and actually talk to his fans like this. My respect for JP grows each time I see a vid like this.

you admire this guy for how he plays. then you love him for who he is. I'm not into guitar but watched the whole clinic just because of his kindness. Bravo.

I hear when babies cry John just has to switch to bridge mode and he absorbs the soul of baby and his BPM jumps 200%.

When my wife was pregnant with my daughter I was learning alot of petrucci's stuff and now she's born its hilarious she could be screaming the house down and I start playing any of it no matter how heavy or clean she settles and 9 times out of 10 falls asleep 🤣🤣

John plays more melodic notes in one song than most guitarists do in a career. The best on the planet. Period!

The solo for Enigma machine is straight up awesome. Love the transition to a slow melodic solo. The tapping after the bend was pretty cool too.

Any skilled guitarrist can play this stuff. But JP actually came up with these ideas and was able to translate them to the guitar. There are few today who can come up with such nice compositions. Most can only play scales and execute techniques up and down. My favorite composers: Buckethead, John Petrucci, Jason Becker.

I have a 3 hr. dvd that I filmed with my Sony Handycam of John's first ever "Massachussetts Guitar Center (across the street from Berklee College) Clinic" in the 1990's. I was the only one filming on this particular day. He showed us all photos he had of his then very young children , too. Good time. Great clinic.

Cool footage! I was at the Southfield Michigan Guitar Center seminar and they expressly forbid pics and vids - to the point where they warned they would throw people out if they saw them filming. So they either didn't care here, or you did a great job of filming on the down low. : )

I was there! This clinic was awesome, and Petrucci was/is such a cool dude. So glad I finally got to meet him! The Archivist Thanks for posting this, but any chance of posting the entire clinic? Having both Dance of Eternity and Enigma Machine is great, but I'd like to hear all the questions that were asked, not to mention having him go into depth about the Majesty guitar and the Ernie Ball strings. If possible, I'd like to see the entire clinic uncut!

I personally like John's JP and Majesty tone MUCH better than his JPM tone. The Ibanez sounded so generic. Sharp edges, nasal mids, and tight low end. The tight low end would be nice if it wasn't achieved through making the low end thinner and more fragile. Just my opinion. But my taste, I've come to notice, isn't everybody else's taste.

Of course the hard as shit thing he's playing at any given time requires him to make a cringed face on stage to make it actually *_seem_* hard for him, for "showbiz effect", lol. I know he's _sort of_ joking, but I think deep down we all really know the truth just slipped out a little. Everything he plays is easy for him, but to make him appear human, he has to fumble around and make it seem really hard, lol. Dude's a legend.
