Mark Five: 25 Info Page: www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Inf...
John Petrucci visited the Mesa Factory in April 2014 before his San Francisco show to hang out. It was also a great day to have John play through an early prototype of the Mark Five 25 for the first time.
We took the fly-on-the-wall approach to capture the experience and got some epic playing from John, some great tones and a bunch of good times with Mesa Founder, Randall Smith, Tone Boy Doug West, and the rest of the Mesa team.
John played through all the various modes and many different settings through a Mini Rectifier 1x12, a Rectifier 1x12 and at the end, a 4x12 Rectifier Standard Slant with Celestion Vintage 30s. He also played with a few different delays (T.C. Electronics G-Major and Jim Dunlop Carbon Copy) in the loop for singing solo tones.
Recorded with the Mark Five: 25, various cabinets (listed above) and a Shure SM57 and a Sennheiser 421.

***** I don't think Ola's demos are better at all. When most guitarists try out an amp, they look for tones that compliment their playing. And when you're showcasing a product for potential buyers, you want it to sound the best you can make it sound. No player can make every amp sound good. The worse is when an demo players says "x amp has a great y tone" and then attempts to show it by playing poorly in that style. It just doesn't sound good and it doesn't benefit anyone. Ola's a great metal player so his demos are practically all metal. Some of the amps he tries can do so much more than metal but he doesn't venture there because he knows his audience and what they're looking for in an amp. Every good demo player knows this. Turning every knob and switch doesn't make an amp sound good. Who cares what an amp sounds like with the bass turned all the way up or with the boost turned on. Hearing 3 great tones from an amp is better than hearing 10 good tones or 100 mediocre tones. Great tones sells gear the most because that's what people are really looking for. Petrucci playing tones similar to what he uses on stage and in the studio is displaying a lot. He gets great tone there and he's getting it here on a much smaller, less expensive amp. A Mark V costs $2250 and he's showing he can get similar tones from a $1300 amp. He seems really impressed and it appears that he's having a great time playing this amp. I wasn't interested in a Mark Five 25 until this video.

I met John on the Images and Words tour in 1992. He's still the same down-to-earth, personable guy today. With all of his abilities, accolades and achievements, he could've had his ego grow to unbearable proportions, but he remains Johnny Cool and one of the most incredible guitarists to ever pick up the instrument. Freakin' love the guy!!

Having designed my own tube amps and hearing how polished the crunch/lead tones are in that tiny amp made me realize how much dedication and passion is behind it. Anyone can put pieces together and make an amp "sound" like those companies that clone designs but not many can just take it to the next level. Its just like cooking, everyone might know how to cook but only a few can make it taste awesome.

Hi +Oliver Ramos - Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the relative closeup shots in the video to get an ideas of the settings as they change frequently throughout the video. Most of the sounds will offer a point in the video where you can make out the settings. Stop the video and blow up to full screen and you should be able to see the settings. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

I own this amp and can't say enough good things about it. When I first got it, it sounds ehh not so good. I learned how use it(Mesa learning curve), and I still wasn't happy. Contacted Mesa and resolved the issue in 30 minutes..had a preamp tube that wasn't seated well from shipping. Now it blows me away. It really does sound this awesome..but you won't because you're not John Petrucci.

Is it good for bedroom volumes?
@Swampster70
@Swampster70 4 жыл бұрын
@@PandaSharpener You can get some nice meaty tones at very reasonable volumes but don't let the size of the amp or the mere 25 watt rating fool you. This feisty little bastard feels as loud as an old Marshall 50 watt Super Lead when you get the master past 2 oclock. To get the best of it you do need to get the master up past 11oclock (IMHO) but at lower volumes it's still fantastic. I hear the 35W version is a little more versatile and in 25W mode has a bit more spank to it due to the bigger transformer. It also has the 'solo' (alternate master volume) feature and bigger switch/pedal. If you're thinking of gigging the 25W will keep up with a hard hitting drummer but 35W will give you a bit more headroom to spare.

the majesty has an active internal boost, and that makes a whole lot of difference when saturating a tube amp. They should have said if the boost was on or not

Good point,josé andrés Yanes - Except there was no way for us to keep track of when John was switching it on and off and I don't think John was 'keeping track' either. He does make a point of showing it on and off at one point in the video but he also does a fair amount of riding the volume control up and down as well - impossible for us to list all of the variations. That said, the amp is the amp and John is John - the rest is up to the player and their own musical preferences, right? Thanks for watching! :D

i was a Marshall devotee for years until i tried a mesa myself and explored it thoroughly and i can safely say now they sing like angels and have unduplicatable tones,meaning "no other amp does what a mesa does" and it does it very,very well.

I'm an English guy that moved to California but my love for Marshall didn't die. What I got from the EL84's in Mark II+ mode, when I'm in a practice room otherwise the neighbors would definitely call the cops, is when the master volume goes past 1 o'clock you get that Michael Schenker on "One Night at Budokan" lead tone. The saturation is just so nice and full. You can replicate it at lower volume levels in Mark IV mode but getting the power tubes working is always a treat. The one and only thing I don't like about this amp is simple. It is way, way louder than a 25 watt amp should ever be. Great if you're gigging in small places, if you buy it to crank it at home you're kinda screwed. LOL. But it does sound great without the power stage being driven! It packs as much punch as my old Marshall Super Lead 50w head and those ain't exactly quiet for their 50 watt rating. In fact, the Mark V 25 did the Super Lead thing so well that I sold my Marshall. Mini EL's for the win!
