He was so much taller than the actors playing the hobbits that he was proportional to how much a dwarf is taller than a hobbit, so they only had to shoot two groups for the forced perspective shots like the whole Fellowship being shown ready to leave Rivendale.

I got to meet John Davies at Comic Con one year, and he was absolutely the most sophisticated man I have ever encountered. Very polite, very well-dressed, and he spoke in an extremely matter-of-fact way that made you want to listen to him talk for hours. He's an unbelievable contrast to Gimli in real life, which I think goes to show what a great actor he truly is.

John Rhys-Davies is a very sweet man. I met him at a convention last month, and he was really great to talk to. Our nearly 3 yr old son fell asleep in my husband's arms, and my husband was saying he wished he could put our son down in the wagon, but we were going to be doing a selfie with John. John actually came around the table, stood behind my husband, and gave him a shoulder and back massage. My husband thanked him afterwards, and yes I took photos of my husband getting the rubs. The picture we chose for him to sign from his table, was one that has two characters drawn on it: one was him as Gimli, and the other was of him as Sallah. If you can meet him, do so.

Probably a quicker heal time. Had my finger cut off in a rolling van door but they reattached it. When the fingernail finally started growing back I had to continuously rip it off so it wouldn’t tear through my stitches and wouldn’t get ingrown into the swelling. Surprisingly the healing hurt more than the damn wound itself, since I atleast went into shock for that 😑.
