The Dukes of Hazard was such a big part of my growing up EVERY KID in my neighborhood loved the show. Friday nights we would get permission for sleep overs and get togethers for us all to watch the show. We had a large play room and we had boys and girls sleeping over or hanging out to watch the show at my house. Saturday morning we would "recreate" the show! Thank you for all the great childhood memories! I just wish I could find the show on in repeats!

Actually in "Daisy's Song " the balladeer explained that the General was the boy's racecar ,and that they only drove it when they expected trouble. Which meant they drove it a lot.

John, The "bell" exists BUT the notifications from youtube do NOT happen. It used to be that when you were notified, it was via an email. Some browsers have an on screen pop up when a video is posted but that only lasts about 30 seconds and if you are NOT online, you will never see it. KZfaq decided months ago to stop email notifications unless it's via google chrome (google owns youtube) or some phone app. Otherwise subscribers do NOT get notifications via email anymore. Whenever a sub decides to get on youtube the little bell in the upper right corner usually has a number on it if someone uploaded or commented. And that can be hours later before they see it. So when you upload it is always best to use your other forms of social media to notify people as well.

I was only about 4 years old when the show started. So I was wondering if drifting originated on The Dukes. After seeing these newer movies that show cars drifting only reminded me when Bo and Luke Duke did it. The way you guys took corners at high speed was pure art and enjoyable to watch. I know your name is John but to me you will always be Bo. Thanks for being such a special part of my childhood. You all will NEVER be forgotten!!!

Drifting is nothing but what you call a "power slide" and that's the normal way you drive on a dirt surface. Find a local dirt track and go visit it sometimes. You'll see what I mean. On a dirt surface the tires dig or sink into the surface somewhat. This makes the grip characteristics of dirt different from asphalt which is much harder. Even though asphalt provides more grip overall, it's less forgiving. when cornering you have grip in 2 directions forward bite and side bite. On asphalt grip is entirely friction because the tires don't dig or sink into the surface. They merely rest on top. So if you break the tire loose you lose all grip, or at least the vast majority of it, in both direction. That's why you really don't want to power slide on asphalt. Dirt is different and especially if the dirt is somewhat tacky or pliable you can actually corner faster by "power sliding". So, that's the way you drive when you race on dirt. If you watch modern dirt track race cars, you'll see that never actually turn the wheels left into the corner. Typically they have brake bias which simply means they have more brake on the left side and rear wheels. This way when they get to the corner, they just tap the brakes. Due to the brake bias this pitches the car sideways into the corner. At the same`instant they start to counter steer and turn the front wheels back to the right to keep the car from rotating to much and immediately begin to ease back onto the throttle to keep the rear wheels spinning. Keeping the car turning the right amount and not over rotating then becomes a matter of balancing the counter steering and the application of throttle. Anyway, dirt track racers were doing this long before the term "drifting" was every coined.

@@stefanl5183 That stuff looks crazy stressful. I had a friend who poured concrete during the day and raced asphalt ovals on weekends. He said he got out of it because he was blowing up too many motors and it wasn’t affordable. He gave it up and and now golfs all over the south. He’ll lay a 100 foot driveway and garage, go home and get cleaned up and then drive 600 miles to golf. Lol 🤦‍♂️. I don’t know how he does it. I never raced myself. Closest I ever got was hauling cars off the mud with my wrecker. Thanks for the info. Good stuff.

I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazard and I still do when I can find it on. AMAZING show created in, and for, simpler times. A time we need to get back to in my opinion. I saw several "inconsistent incidents" in the later years. I'll never forget the first time I really noticed it. I can't recall the name of the episode right off hand, but Bo was driving and they drove up into the back of a box truck to hide from Roscoe but when they backed out Luke was driving. My first thought was, "Man they really screwed that one up"... Now I know why! LOL Love you and the show. Thank you for continuing to stay in touch and helping to keep our minds grounded in simpler times. ❤️ 🙏

I just watched the first few episodes of the show this year, and yes, in either the first or second episode, Bo heads for the driver's side window (The doors didn't open, remember?) and Luke grabs his arm, asking "How come you're driving?" Bo comes back with "I'm driving because _I'm the driver!_ " Forgive me if my quotes are not totally accurate, I'm speaking from memory. They also mention that Luke is the crew chief and infer that Luke is smarter, or at least more intellectual, than Bo. Also, they are in the process of turning the General into a rally car or something, like racing professionally is their goal.

I always had the impression that in the beginning Bo and Luke both had daily drivers, and General Lee was their race car they built together. Since Cooter lost Luke's car in episode one, and Waylon says that the boys have another car in episode 2. I always assumed he was talking about a daily driver of Bo's, but maybe he was talking about Daisy's car.

I remember owning a copy of One Armed Bandits. It inspired me to build a scale General in welding class. I still have it on a shelf.

First off, my wife and I love you and what you stand for. Just started binge watching the DoH and noticed in the first or second episode, there was a Gran Torino used that was a Starsky and Hutch designed car. Why was this used just out of curiosity? I'm thinking that it was to prove the Charger was a much cooler car than the Torino was. LOL
