Mostly known for his Gilded Age portraits in oil, John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was also a prolific watercolorist, one of the best ever. Museum of Fine Arts Houston assistant curator Kaylin Weber talks about Sargent's masterful depiction of light and shadow, and why Houston is an especially appropriate stop for this traveling exhibition.

My god I swoon at his Watercolors.......I swung by Philly a few years ago to catch the Sargent/Homer exhibit, and was so wonderful. I wish I could be a fly on the wall to watch him lay down those colors and brush strokes. He is by far my favorite Watercolorist, such life in his paintings......

I adore Sargent’s watercolors, especially the way he used them to play with light and shadow. You can really see the confidence of a master artist. If I could paint half so well I would be very happy

He only gave watercolor paintings to his closest friends, he didn't do commissions, that's what she's trying to say

Drop the MUSAK - the paintings are what this video is about .I am sure that Sargent would have hated this musak also .

Chopped the paintings up...kept them MOVING so you NEVER see what the painting looks like unmolested. Talking heads and cut-up paintings are an insult to a great artist.
