I just gained a new level of respect for John Smith.

Wild. I’m a middle aged man and John Smith has been a wrestling fixture my whole life as a wrestler. Class act and legend.

John Smith is just a quality human being.

Smith went out like a boss. Pure class. It occurs to me that this whole thing with DT to OK State is going to impact Iowa way more than it does PSU. Can you imagine the pressure that Brands will be under if OK State finishes ahead of Iowa this coming season or next?

Thanks coach Smith 🤘🏽🙏🏽🤗

Loved John since I first watched him wrestle in the '80's. Great guy, better wrestler and coach. All class.

Coach Smith is a very likeable fella. I look forward to seeing him watching duals in the VIP fan section

This is such a great display of the kind of man Coach Smith is. Clearly not happy with the decision and feels for his guys but keeps it classy and positive. Easy to read between the lines tho.

My interpretation is that he had his doubts before the press conference, but not after. He still seems shell-shocked by the left turn, but knows it was the right decision. But however he felt , he showed nothing but class as usual.

I can easily say that I really respect Coach Smith. He had quite the run.

OSU been the standard for USA wrestling for over 100 years! This is the first Olympics since 1924 that doesn't have a Cowboy on the team. Chew on that for a minute.... Yeah, the entire wrestling world was watching who the new coach would be

John Smith is a legend. Let’s just get that out of the way, coach/wrestler. You can tell he wants nothing less than the best for OSU. His, eyes/ body language and disposition tell a story that cannot be denied. He is not behind the decision to bring in David Taylor as his successor. Before you come after me, prove me wrong.
@stumpslide3005Ай бұрын
Of course it’s not his decision but I believe he supports it.

Coach Smith gets it. He’s getting out of the way and letting Coach Taylor do his thing.

I grew up in the 60’s and watched a lot of great wrestlers, and I’m a big Dan Gable fan. But I always thought John Smith was the GOAT! He’s been good for the sport of wrestling!

It’s hard to welcome in a stranger to take control of something you’ve been a charge of for 40 years.

John’s retired and so his next “roll” is like he said is to be a fan. He’s earned this retirement. He’s the greatest American wrestler and a legendary Coach.

Hope coach stays visible around the sport in some capacity. Will be weird having someone in charge around here who isn't home-grown.

I’m sure it’s because of Chris and Coleman. Chris has been in that room since he was a little kid through College and as a Coach. To be out after 30+ years has to be tough for him to watch. I only wish Coleman would have stayed at NC and only agreed to come over if there was a contract in place guaranteeing him the Head Coaching position at OSU. That’s a hard lesson he’s going to learn. Hopefully both guys land great jobs. Also it would be nice if OSU paid them their salaries for next year giving them time to get something.
