Especially these days, even children, are being brought into particular dances, and transgender being "the person's" feelings call, and such a devotion that the left-leaning mainstream media seems to have for people who are "broadening", or widening their scope of life into "where no man has ever gone before", type of thing, but we clearly see, no, these things are not new, Sodom and Gomorrah new them, and Jesus, our insightful Lord prophesied that particular "liberalities" and mindsets, and "business as usual" situations would rise again, and would even 'serve as a sign', so to speak, in our "time", that Jesus would soon be returning, and that the anti-Christ, and many events would be being 'groomed', and then rising. (Luke 17 interestingly, specifically mentions "as in the days of Lot", etc. and as we note, we see the gap and demarcation line widening, and I even heard of NY Times Post seeking to blame the expansion of the Covid-19 virus onto Christians, ... Wow! Now, that's quite a reach!, and now (3 yrs after you wrote your post Ruben), with the restrictions, and overseeing of things seeming to become "more necessary" by the government, perhaps some sectors of states, cities, and federal networks are reaching for a "new reich", i.e. a new realm, and even entertaining that it's the "right thing to do", for the sake of "Collective Salvation", or Collectivism. Revelation chapter 13 is not all that far away, at all, imo.

Yeah! There is a high cost to pay if you want to live a consacreted life for Christ. Uncle John gave us a good example. Now it is our turn. May God give us grace to run the race left before us!

Yes, because there is an even higher cost to pay, for those who refuse to receive the Lord, and only become harder hearted, as time moves forward, we need to strengthen ourselves in the Lord, and not be soaked up like a dumpling, or dipped piece of bread, in the soup(s) of this world.

"There is one theme that we tended to neglect and that is the call to be different from the world around us." - John Stott “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” (Matt 6:8) “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Rom 12:2) “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” (Col 2:8) “Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations” (Col 2:20) “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world.” (1Jn 2:15-16)

Seconding that Amen! Two authors (amongst many others really), but two contemporary authors in particular, whenever I was assembling a study, they were always such a nice stair-rail, so to speak, or added thoughts, outside of my own, which, (I have a lot of thoughts on my own, but I often like to reinforce and supplement them all the further, with perhaps different angles, perhaps slightly (or significantly timeline/cultures), and varied experiences, so those "two authors" (to complete this run-on, or 'run-away' sentence), were John Stott, and Ray Stedman. In all honesty, I feel sort of bummed out with myself that I didn't follow up with John much after the turn of the century, but then, I have not always been utilizing KZfaq, either. Very pertinent to John's statement here, he had written a book on the Beatitudes as a sort of "counter-culture" of the cultures around us, and so, his commentary on the Beatitudes very much resonated to me, and, in that particular instance, much of what he shared was the heart of my own brief teaching on it (I don't know, perhaps 4 once-a-week studies, or around there). I always want to read bible verses straight from the bible first, and do my own meditation, and prayer, but very learned and gifted people are a great resource, and John, worded things well, and sort of 'stood out', to me.

Is it me?......he says "reject the world around us" while in a denomination that is very much part of this world.

He says 'be different from the world around us', which doesn't mean rejecting the world but living differently than the world would have us live. In the world but not of the world, etc.

Nat S. is correct. John Stott quoted Romans 12:1, and the context is one must be in the world in order to resist being conformed to this world. Furthermore, verse 2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, on the basis of chapters 1 to 11.
