The entire 3rd act was an homage to The Warriors (Which I saw at Harkins theater Arvada last Tuesday night), it even had the lady DJ shot from only the nose down, and she even called the dudes chasing John Wick 'Boppers'. lol...I was expecting Joe Walsh's In The City to play over the end credits...CAN YOU DIG IT?? I appreciate that John Wick had a 'save the dog' redemption moment...

I’m not sure how future action movies can compete with John Wick 4’s action scenes. I was in awe for a couple hours and couldn’t believe the fight scenes I was seeing. They showed us things we haven’t seen before

Well the action scenes in chapter 3 were beyond ridiculous, silly and redundant.. it became a joke and hated the film in general. Enjoyed chapter 1-2 much more. Is 4 that much different than 3 ? That's the real question I have.
@cmleibenguth
@cmleibenguth Жыл бұрын
@@royfokerpoker1802 Chapter 4 has better pacing in general The action set pieces are long but dynamic and less repetitive (whereas, in Chapter 3, some of the action sets were repetitive and that could lead to issues like you said) The movie doesn't feel like 3 hours (I also went in very skeptical about that runtime, even as a huge fan of action movies and this franchise)
@tdogg6148

Yeah 4 was better, but make no mistake that we watch this series for the action. Action that works with good storytelling makes it that much better of a movie.

Saw it in IMAX and God damn it was a cinematic orgasm. An assault to my senses (in a really good way), the new additions to the cast were great, the cinematography was beautiful, the action scenes ridiculously good. After it was over I immediately booked another showing this time for Dolby at AMC. Also Rest In Peace Lance Reddick. I could say more but just watch it on the biggest screen possible.

The film's tributes and hat tips to action cinema - from The Warriors to Highlander to the films of Scott Adkins and more - was an immense joy to behold. It hurts a little to know that general audiences won't quite grasp the love at work in this movie.

This movie is definingly a contender for the Best Action movie category. I loved all the action scenes with the creativity. They did stuff we havent seen in the series before. With the battle that took place in the building in Paris on the final night. The camera movement from top down was a great addition and choice for the film. Reminded me of a video game and it was a nice interesting change. The idea behind the final fight to get up the stairs and the iconography behind climbing the stairs to get to the final dual. Well acted, well coordinated, and iconic. There was a well mix of action, dialogue, and lore mixed in. I want to see this movie again when I get the chance. If I can criticize anything about the film, very nit picky, Some of the close combat/hand to hand battle scenes I felt as if some of the assailants could have gotten a shot/blow into John while he was fighting 3 people at the same time. But such a minor complaint shouldnt take you away from seeing the movie 4 times.

Hey guys, missed the show Friday as I was seeing this, I think its one of the best, up there with The Killer/The Raid/A Better Tomorrow 2/Eastern Condors. Hollywood wise it could be the best Hollywood action ever, only nitpicks are why put Scott Adkins in a fat suit, and Donnie's "Blind Fury" powers were a bit much towards the end, but they are nitpicks with 160 mins of MAGIC! I'm going again Wednesday. Did anyone else think Exorcist on the staircase fall?

Scott Adkins' character is in part also homage to Sammo Hung, who is a really big guy who has done a ton of kung fu and action movies (see Killzone / Sha Po Lang for a relatively recent one -- has Donnie Yen too) Mentioned in one of the interviews Adkins did

It’s very rare for the 4th film in a franchise to be just as good if not better than the previous. That said, I hope they end it after this, otherwise John Wick will be approaching superhero mutant territory. John Wick 6 will have him driving a car off rooftops while dodging helicopter rapid fire bullets.

@@rockwell7043 - He definitely has the martial arts skills, but unfortunately for him he's 30 years too late. He likely would have had a better chance in the late 80s and early 90s to be a Jeff Speakman level star, but he wouldn't have been able to surpass JCVD or Seagal. To your point, he might be able to have a decent career making Redbox action films, but I don't see him breaking out unless his agent tells him to stop making all of those films and focus on smaller parts in more reputable theatrical films.

The 3rd speaker brought the knowledge, yes there's a latino in the film, Marko Zorra. Glad he mentioned him. Great martial arts action actor. And most people in the West only know Donnie Yen from Ip Man and Star Wars. The man's made over 80 movies for decades with some of the best martial arts filmmakers on the planet. Glad he mentioned Iron Monkey, a classic. Also Dragon Tiger Gate, Once Upon a Time In China 2, SPL, Flash Point, the list goes on! This film also puts guys like Scott Adkins in front of mainstream audiences properly (even in the fat suit) but again this man's a martial arts movie legend. Has been in films like Doctor Strange as a glorified stunt man but you need to see Undisputed 2, 3 and 4!

It’s literally being in love mainly or only with the action. The story, caring about the characters, and the plot are just stupid. If a movie in the future delivers a much better action than this movie, we would all just move on to that. There’s a reason why Luke Skywalker till this day is among the most iconic fictional characters of all time. Which is the bond between the characters and the audience. That real connection of being inspired and that we care about the character. Thus, we won’t ever move on from such connection. As for future great characters, we’ll simply make room for them and NOT replace the old. That’s what’s missing from John Wick 4, even though the action and the production were all amazing.

The film being 3 hours long is not a hindrance to the box office. The highest grossing movies of all time are all 2.5 - 3 hours long! Avatar, Avengers Endgame, Titanic, Avatar The Way of Water and Avengers Infinity War all made over $2 billion at the box office, and all those movies are between 2.5 - 3 hours long! What makes a box office success is if lots of people love the movie and go back to see it again and again, which John Wick 4 will probably have no problem with because it's awesome!

Yeah people have completely ruined theaters. There's always people talking. It's a mad world out there. Every fucking time I go to the theater I ask myself how the hell I managed to forget the annoyance I had from my last experience and re-promise myself to never go again. It's not like crazy over the top, but I'll always hear mumbling of discussion. In john wick 4 I could hear talking during peak action scenes in IMax, extremely loud scenes. People just don't have common sense or are selfish and don't care.

If they had not destroyed the world building (literally the description of one unbelievable scene that ripped me out of immersion) and handed out plot armor like Disney giving out tickets to The Marvels, this could have been considered for that list. However, this movie is unfortunately deep into the realm of mindless fun, as continuity does not even apply within scenes, and the retconning of past facts also damages them now. In one scene many cars hit Wick in a row and he is perfectly fine thanks to the magic armor, but he tosses a guy wearing the same suit with his hands into the side of car and that nearly knocks the enemy out. It is too bad they went more Marvel than the Marvel with it, but there is still fun to be had in many of the sequences. Not close to a near perfect like Die Hard, Terminator 2, or Aliens. Also, everyone using the same moves as John began to grate, and him abandoning tactics to just count on the magic luck he picked up somewhere, that makes sure everyone will try to stab him with their gun, shoot only the suit (clearly Beskar to attract all ranged attacks), or bows that take forever to reload, really pulled this down at times. The scenes where they default to blades first were really cringe-worthy. Still it is on track to turn a decent profit by the second week, so apparently a lot of people appreciate the lack of agenda and the wall-to-wall action, even with the above. For me JW 1 is still better. This will be a one watch and shelve for me, though I will go back and see the first many more times.

Well, a movie without plot, no stakes, no balance and endlessly long fight scenes. He falls from three story buildings, stairways and never breaks a bone. How long is disbelief supposed to be suspended? Is it a great stunt-fight-choreography reel? Yes. Is it the best action movie ever made? Of course not. It's not even the best of the four Wick movies. I fell asleep before reaching Paris. I was begging for this movie to end.

I thought JW4 was good only FOR TODAY'S MOVIE STANDARDS. It wasn't a very good movie compared to previous decade's movies, but considering today's cringe that makes a $B per film, it was good. This movie asked the audience to suspend their logic & common sense waaayyy too many times. Like just how often can JW get hit by a car, and still keep fighting? How many times can he fall from the second or third floor and nothing happens? After the umpteenth time, I'm realizing there's poor writing behind this and they're asking too much of the viewer. I put this movie around the level of an 80's Steven Seagal movie, but since it's a current times movie, it gets absolutely no competition, making it "look good."

It’s shooter/combat video game: The Movie. Entertaining, but ridiculous. Calling it even potentially “the greatest action movie of all time” is absurd hyperbole. It’s a video game.
