According to the instructions, there is no need to slacken the tie bolts during adjustment.. That is why the backplate has been fitted without leaving access to the tie bolt heads…The micro adjusting screws do the gripping of the part during adjustment….The tie bolts have no effect during adjustment, and should not be touched. I have one fitted to a Myford 7…bought new and there is no access to the tie bolts.. If as you say the tie bolts need to be slackened and tightened during adjustment, that means the Chuck would need constant removal and refitting for every new adjustment…that’s not the idea… Adjustment is carried out with Chuck fitted, simply by using the micro screws…

Once the griptru Chuck is initially set up, does it remain running true, or is constant re-adjustment required? So, if you set it up to run true using, for example a 12 mm diameter silver steel bar, will the jaws still be true if the next bit of bar you put in the chuck is,for example, 40 mm diameter silver steel?

Harry, I guess that depends on how new the chuck is. I have 2 Bison Set Tru chucks which are super accurate when dialled in but they are also super expensive! An old chuck like the one I featured is good when set up and will still be reasonably accurate at different diameters, but you have the option of dialling it in again if the part needs to be very accurately chucked. I love the adjustable chucks and wouldn't be without them. John

The micro adjustment screws are adjusted to suit each individual work piece…that is the whole point of the chuck, to allow for discrepancies in individual pieces….once you get the hang of the adjustment technique it only takes seconds to complete

Hello John, what brand quick change do you use for the Boxford lathe?

The chuck I use every day is the superb Bison 125mm grip tru chuck. It is very tough with nice thick jaws and is super accurate. The one I bought on Ebay is a Pratt Burnerd one.

Sorry just realised you I think asked about the tool post which is a typical wedge piston quick change one from China. No particular brand. Nice solid and well made.
