Mystery Rivett 608 parcel, is it the Traverse Milling attachment?

In the UK these milling attachments are very unusual and I was pleased to be able to find one, even though it needed a lot of work. The standard of design and workmanship is outstanding, they are elegantly fashioned from cast iron and superbly scraped with thankfully most of the scraping marks still clearly visible. They were a huge price $390 in 1944 or $125 in 1901.
This attaches to my Rivett 608 on the saddle when the cross slide is removed. Still needs some extra work to motorise it.

John, a great find and rebuild. Expensive when new, no doubt due to having a rectangular spindle block with scraped external faces running in a rectangular cylinder, that also had scraped internal surfaces.

Casimir, Also don't forget the spindle was tapered. I cannot think of a more difficult thing to make.

@@john2478 Well, at the cost, close to that of a house, I wouldn’t have expected less. ( If I have it right, a Laing 3 bed semi detached house “ fit for heroes” after World War One and built a little later in the 1930’s cost £600-£700 pounds. If I heard you correctly, the milling attachment cost similar. That’s £800,000 for the same house in London.
