Venomous Vince Yeah it is, though considering what happened to her in the past and the heat of the situation I can understand it. I like how in this ending we can basically imply that Dojima knew the Protagonist had something to do with Namatame's death because of his speech on "no one would step up to see justice done" and so "the closest person at hand had to bear the burden of punishing them". As if Dojima understood what the Protagonist had to endure and so he let it go.

Don't forget, it was his daughter that ended up dead. And in his eyes, Namatame was to blame for it. Sad thing is, it's not just him: It's also the players for shoving him into the TV, earning them the bad ending.

People say persona 4 isn’t dark, but this is fucked up. Seeing how they are so willing to throw Namatame into the TV just gives me chills. Everyone goes out of character and their revenge takes over. Like when Naoto said “ stop begging it’s pathetic” that just really hit. And how the 3 girls were trying to stop them but felt powerless, this whole scene is just hard to watch. Also seeing dojima becoming all alone just absolutely breaks my heart because he’s been through so much shit.

A murder is dark, but compare it to: 1. The apocalypse 2. Demon invasion 3. Planetary destruction 4. The rebirth of the world 5. Multiversal destruction It loses by far when you compare it. I see kids as little demons, I saw some kids punch each other for candy in my time. But Nanako is just so pure. Almost unrealistically pure, like I never saw a kid like her. I actually felt like I got shot when I heard the long beep of her heart stopping.
@marianamora42034 жыл бұрын
@@masterblaster2678 hell yeah! Nanako's being such a good kid despite her circumstances is a bit unrealistic but it's at least still plausible. Her ability to be so self reliant to the point she takes care of Dojima more than he takes care of is sadly just what she has to do in order to survive. At the same time, she doesn't accept Dojima's negligence completely as seen when she acts out and runs away, and effectively calling him out on his shit. She's still naive about some things and underestimated about others just like any other kid. She's extremely loving and grateful because she's so lonely. The fact that Dojima lost his daughter after losing his wife too must hurt so much. The family he built up is gone, and even Nanako, a reminder of his wife, is gone. The only solace he can find is knowing his nephew was the one that brought Namatame to justice for his daughter, but even then, they aren't together. It's just Dojima by himself, more broken than he ever was. Seeing him still smile for Yu breaks my heart. He should be mourning.
@hansalanson34972 жыл бұрын
The little bit of dark irony here is that the team members who supported throwing Namatame in (Yosuke, Kanji and Naoto) were the ones level-headed enough to bring him out of the TV after the Heaven dungeon in spite of the iron clad assumption they had on him at the time. This says a lot about how much Nanako means to them or how the fog is actually taking effect on people, or maybe even both.

Empathy can be a double-edged sword. It's extremely useful when applied appropriately and necessary for the existence of a functional civilization, but it's also an inherently self-centered thing because you're using your own experiences to extrapolate how other people feel. It's a form of projection in a sense, asking "This thing the person I'm talking to is going through... how would I feel if it happened to me?"

@@Ultimate214 I'll do you one better. It's framed as if you were watching it all on the Midnight Channel. It's not totally visible, but you can see from the silhouette that it's obviously Namatame. You hear the audio clear as day. You hear him panic, cry and whimper as he pleads for his life as his Shadow and other Shadows in his dungeon get closer and closer to him. The Midnight Channel's signal starts to get fuzzy as the Shadows start to attack his body. The screams cut in and out. And as the signal loses power... just about to meet his demise... he screams one last time--and the Midnight Channel's signal goes completely dead, cutting off his scream at the perfect moment. And Persona 4's logo shows up one last time before fading to darkness. Could happen with or without the logo, but I feel like it'd be a nice little bow at the end of it all. I could add on the idea of Adachi watching it all from his couch, maniacly laughing, as his eyes become the yellow we see when he is consumed by the Shadows and darkness, making one last little "fuck you"-type speech to really make it sink in that you absolutely fucked up, but I dunno. The thing that hits me the most in the feels is the fact that Dojima is now truly alone. In his and Nanako's Social Links, we saw how they slowly but surely tried to reinvigorate their family after his wife was killed in an accident. It even shows that Dojima started to care for what he has at the moment more because his wife''s murderer is near impossible to find. Nanako also accepts the fact that Dojima and MC are family as well, and she shouldn't focus only on the bad that happened. However, Dojima now clearly regressed as his daughter died and MC leaves Inaba. He will be forever reminded of his failures as a detective and as a father as he withers away alone, not accepting anyone, and not truly solving the case, making his failures even greater than what he knows about.

There are so many things that make this brilliantly deserved bad ending if you go through with it. Namatame at this point still believed he was saving people’s lives, and that these teenagers who beat the crap out of him got in the way, so his Shadow would reasonably be thinking “well it’s YOUR fault that your sister is dead, fuck you guys.” Plus Shadows by themselves aren’t a reflection of a person’s true desires. They should have known that after facing their own Shadows. Like all the viewers of the Midnight Channel who were a source of torment for them, they hypocritically peered into the private thoughts of his darker side to confirm their own biases that he was a bad person. Also, the fact that every party member’s Shadow Self attempts to kill us during their boss fights is foreshadowing that the protagonists were always capable of committing murder. Assimilating your Shadow is the process of accepting it without necessarily acting on its impulses. By killing Namatame, they’ve become possessed by their Shadows.

This was the first ending I got doing a blind playthrough. I played enough JRPGs in my time to know that they typically won't let you stray very far from the story they want to funnel you through, so it hit me all the more like a ton of bricks when I tried to call their bluff and they actually delivered. Knowing how powerful they can make a bad ending, it's a shame they haven't attempted anything like it since.

Empathy is the source of the bonds we forge, so to act out of line with it would pretty much nullify the greater purpose such connections serve. It wasn't something that I really had to think of. Revenge solves literally nothing.

Also the game literally asks you a second time to change your opinion while the girls have doubt about the righteousness of this situation (Except for Naoto wich is funny as she literally represents justice as a detective but i guess she had to be either fully for or against it)

@@PancakemonsterFO4 Yes, I was explaining why the people who made the plot made that decision. I don't know and don't care who L and Kira are, but I get your point. Still, because the investigation team are teenagers, who think using the amygdala instead of the frontal lobe, so it's somewhat explainable that Naoto went for the impulsive option instead of thinking it through calmly. Obviously, it still isn't a right thing to do, as evidenced by this being a “bad ending”.

You know,even if this is the most happy go lucky persona game,this ending is so messed up,it makes you feel horrible for acting out of impulse,because Nanako dies,dojima has no wife or daughter,and the town is enshrouded in fog because of Adachi. I remember watching the p5 bad endings,and they were messed up because the characters in that game were so relatable and likeable too,but damn this ending hit hard for me. Honestly with how Persona 3s main theme more or less was in the end death comes for us all, some sooner than others, some later than others, I could picture this being more fitting for 3 instead of 4. But I can understand Naoto, Kanji, and Yosuke really wanting Yu to throw Namatame in. It may have been acting on impulses but I think if anything happened to someone really close to us, and we know exactly who did it and where they are, its pretty much natural instinct for revenge to cross your mind at least once. But to set the tone at the black screen a text should've popped up saying "But..would Nanako want this?" Basically a sign that you made the morally wrong choice and fucked up big time
