Perfect, the most under utilized "thing" in hifi . . . treating the room on some level. To me, getting the room right has always been paramount, within the price and living space limitations available. 20 years ago my dedicated listening room was treated by 8 large ASC tube traps, and various wall mounted flat panels. It wasn't on this level, and wasn't conceived on a computer to the exacting level shown in this video, but the results were amazing. My room really allowed system upgrades to shine through, even on the rudimentary level that I had treated it. That room was repurposed for years, but is now going back to a dedicated 2 channel room and will be fully treated with GIK acoustics before I setup any gear. Well done on this room, it's going to sound amazing no doubt.

Amazing install and serious money but for a serious audiophile it’s worth the cost. HOWEVER my OCD kicked in when I saw the clock wedged between the panels and their closeness to it lol - it was taken down towards the end but it was back up at the end of the video. Please move it for me before I blow a circuit 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The room we listen in is by far the most impact on sound good or bad. Those expensive room treatments will never wear out. Having a great sounding room is the foundation for gear to work properly. Modest gear would sound grand in a well treated room.

Fun to watch, I just wish that you had shown a wider view of how the entire area looks. Also, some explanation of how they determined the exact placement of the particular panels. I'm hoping that some of that will be addressed in your next video. I could easily hear the difference, and can't wait for your reaction to music being played in the room.

I use racking stuffed with records and books. Plants, tapestries, and thick antique curtains. Large upside-down Japanese umbrellas help with the ceilings. Scattered Persian rugs. Gives the room that early 19th-century opium den vibe. Everything was purchased second-hand. True recycling.

I find that plants of ficus benjamina in the corners, books, lps, nice thick curtains, beautiful pictures on the wall, lamps with cloth lampshades, sofas, carpets and so on make my living room sound great...and it looks fab. Not sure how many people want their lounge to look like a recording studio...and partners!

Excellent to watch the installation. Could you mention the Vicoustic process for determining which panels are required and where they will go? What about a good, better, best approach - which panels to start with and which to add to the project? The upfront engineering in super important. Thanks!

For those who arent interested in having special panels on the walls and ceiling heres my suggestions. Install the thickest carpet you can find and make sure it covers all of the floor. Put in some bookshelfs filled with books. Your favourite upholstered furniture (no leather). Hang some paintings etc on the walls, some flowers etc. Work with finding a good placement for your speakers and listening location. If you want to improve it from there. Assuming your loudspeakers are good enough (ie measure good) get at least two subwoofers. Work on placing them in the best spot. Get a mini dsp or similar and work on the crossover (around 80hz) and some parametric eq (only up to 120 hz or so!). After this you get new speakers if they atent quite up to snuff👌😊

The room is the most important part of the system. I had a house with a big room (30 x 40’) for a big system (801’s and subs, 2kw power etc.) speakers set out 4’ from the walls , listening 7’ from rear wall etc. with fair bit of, low quality room treatment. Sounded pretty good by all accounts. Then moved to a much smaller condo, small living room sitting with listening short side to the speakers that have to be against the wall- listening position too. It sounded better (but shouldn’t). I thought the speakers would crush the room but “nearfield” seemed to benefit the 801’s. THEN I treated the ceiling, front and back walls almost like this room. Magical. Spend less on gear like expensive $5k DACs (sorry Darko). Put it into the room - the effect will be more noticeable.

Very interesting John. In a previous house I had a dedicated listening room which I had acoustically analyzed and then made and installed the recommended ceiling, wall/ceiling interface and bass trap components. The improvement was startling! In my current house I share the large main living space with my wife so acoustic room treatment, apart from an area rug, is out of the question. I have a 'near field' listening position which minimizes those primary reflections but I'm sure it would sound so much better with some absorption/diffraction/bass trap panels. Cheers, Dave.

Whenever i go towards my turntable that's placed on a t/table shelf bolted to the side-wall half-way down my living room that is twice as long as it is wide, with speakers aiming down the long length, i hear a near perfect bass ballance that dissapears when my head gets a foot or so & more away, the deep bass is all but gone when i'm sitting on my listening sofa. I have soft furnishing all around the room, a thick'ish carpet with an underlay & i've tried altering speaker phase, toe-in/out & everything i can think of to ameliorate this fact but it grieves me that it still only sounds excellent throughout the whole frequency spectrum with my head about a foot or less away from the side wall above my equipment. I've tried everything short of placing the speakers 4 or more feet out from the wall ...the misses won't take that. Every week i get asked "have you pulled those speakers out from the wall again" no, i say lying thru my teeth that i moved them out by 2 more inches & still she notices it !! I dare not try to pull them out more because if i like it better, i'll want them there permanently for music & film & tv sound. Are we not men? I had balls once

I have two listening rooms. The small upstairs one is 140sq ft and has three separate very small windows high on the right hand speaker wall with bookshelf below. there is one large window that is covered by a top down bottom up fabric shade on the back wall. The floor is carpeted. The back wall is a fabric sofa with wall art and the front wall has two large wall art pieces. The ceiling has two large hanging Japanese paper Mobiles that are pyramidal shape that comes to a point at the ceiling and are four ft by four ft. They hang down about two and a half feet from a nine foot ceiling. There is no reverberance and the art and carpeting make the room aesthetically pleasing along with dampening. The sub woofer is a REL T/7X along with a choice of Magnapan LRS, Buchardt s400 or older B&W 805 s. The Rel is quick enough for the LRS and they are powered by a Hegel h190. So far, so good and didn't have to pay for room treatment. Obviously not as technically effective as Darko's but gets the job done.
