‪@501chorusecho‬ is (or certainly was) a big fan of the Strymon Brigadier, which is the main reason that when I was asked if I'd check out the little brother, the Brig, I said yes. I've not really gravitated toward Analogue style delays in the past, but is this one different?

I respect your open way of doing things like: you turned down the money because you did not want to get biased, and you got the pedal to test it, and you will send it back when you are finished. I hope other youtubers take note of this and not give a "review" just because they got contacted by the brand to say good things about a product they don't own. Cheers from Vienna mate!

I loved the brigadier and had it for years but hated the fact that you couldn’t retap without time warp… I was stoked to see this version. I loved my memory lane but missed the brigadier. Super happy for strymon’s latest offering 👍👍👍

@@chrisco1986 do it… the brig is definitely an upgrade in my opinion… it has more artifacts but the memory lane is no slouch. I could be happy with either but I’m currently favoring the brig 👍

I just got my first Strymon pedal last week, the flint. Absolutely love it, want more strymon stuff but there seems to be a lot of overlap and it’s almost overwhelming to choose. I’m sure you can’t go wrong with a lot of it but they’re pricey

It was probably hard to sell people on a $300 pedal that aimed to emulate pedals that could be had from $150. I wonder how this will sell. At $250, it’s priced like a Memory Man. It can do more, but doesn’t have the clout of being “the real thing”. I bought a Brig because it can take midi clock in from my Beat Buddy drum machine for automated tap tempo. But that’s a very niche feature that most guitarists won’t care about. I’m guessing Strymon waits for everybody to buy this, then they’ll release a small El Cap and hope everybody buys again.

The larger Brigadier sits the best in a mix of my delay I’ve had. The mini Brig is also good - I don’t think it’s quite the same sound (like the Cloudburst, they seem to have gone mega-digital sheen in tone, whereas the slightly older Brigadier feels and sounds like it’s trying a bit less hard, to my ears). Both great pedals though, and the Strymon Multiswitch gives you presets without having to go full MIDI. The only thing keeping the Brigadier off my board is the UA Starlight, which isn’t as good at that one sounds as the Brigadier, but has a really fab quarter > dotted 8th setting that does the Edge / Gilmour thing brilliantly in EP or MM mode. Happy days.

Years back I bought the TC Electronic Flashback. I can custom design just about any delay sound. My favorite I’ve created is an Ecoplex style delay minus the wow and flutter. Like a perfect tape delay.

The brigadier was my favorite pedal but you couldn’t re-tap without the sound of the time warp which strymon would let you turn off… they got rid of that on this pedal so it will be returning to my board 👍👍👍

I demo'd it a while back, and the Brigadier is lovely sounding, very very smooth. But, in the end I decided I liked the Boss DM-101 better, for vibiness, grit and lo-fi character. I do wish it was stereo in though. Shame to go full ham on a dual BBD and then hobble the input side. Especially when there's so many nice true stereo choruses available these days (Boss DC-2W, TC Electronic SCF+), and more and more people are recording stereo amp rigs. But for stereo, I do really like the DMM in my UAD Del-verb too. And another thing that I like is running the send of my DOD Rubberneck out to the TC SCF+ mono, and then running the BBD delay into wide stereo chorus on stereo side channel amps, keeping the centre amp without chorus/delay. So it's sounds wide and shimmery, but not OTT chorus or especially flanger, and renders the BBD delay (or flanger) is pseudo-stereo. Then UAD can do this type of thing too, with flanger and phaser variations, digital but true stereo.

I really do think the magic of this pedal is the stereo modulation. I do hate TRS - dual TS cables though, they're seemingly all shite quality. I have a V2 Dig and El Cap though so I have no option but to use them in a stereo rig.

This delay sounds fantastic to me. I’d be curious to hear a Helix bucket brigade delay next to it for comparison. Also, I wonder how studio pros like Tom use stereo effects like this on a session. Do they bring two amps?

John, how are you running your signal we're hearing? Guitar -> Brig -> DI -> DAW? Guitar -> Brig -> Stomp -> DI -> DAW? I don't think you're micing cabs. If he has posted this info before and someone else knows, please share. Thanks!

He's using a Line 6 HX Stomp. You can see the white box at 5:01. Looks like it's going into the front of the Stomp which he can do as he's using it in mono. I duspect he's going out of the Stomp into his interface. Think he generally uses studio monitors to hear himself and we're hearing the DI signal.

I don’t see (hear) what is so special about this pedal. There are numerous good quality actual bbd delay pedals available, so why not just get one of those. Personally, I like the Maxon and Boss delays. The dm101 does everything one could reasonably want from a bbd delay. And no, I don’t want to pay twice as much for a Suhr Discovery.

Sounds artificial like everything I have heard from Strymon. The ultimate test for any analog delay is putting it in front of a distorted amp. If it works for that - it is good. This one does even sound terrible in an effects loop of a clean amp. Try the Mythos or Analogman devices, or if you have too much cash, the Suhr analog delay - they all eat this digital failure for breakfast. While mine has not arrived yet, I very much expect the same to be true for the new Benson delay. I somewhat do not understand the current hype about Nashville session players... They are all about being a fit for every style of music, and to my ears they all sound completely uninspiring, even if they are without doubt great players. If I would sound like Bukovac or Pierce (and they are both fantastic players) I would give up on playing guitar.
@paulrhodesquinn
@paulrhodesquinn 7 ай бұрын
What exactly do you mean by artificial? Also, if you don’t understand the hype about the Nashville players, some of whom I work with, I’d suggest that maybe you haven’t yet reached a level of playing or musicianship where you can appreciate their skills. I’m assuming you’re not a pro?
