JT was a favorite from my childhood. He sang lead along with Sam Cook for the Soul Stirrers, a gospel group. He always brought the show with him! It was just second nature for him to take the stage, and pull you into what he was singing. That band? Red scalding hot! Love this!!!!

Great song. We used to cover it in LA Blues Clubs. Black Speedy our keyboardist and tenor brought us the song. Speedy had great diction and style. The audience hung on to every word of the story. Song is so underrated but you need a real personable and powerful frontman to pull it off. This video is a real treat. Johnny is amazing as he casts his spell. Thank you for sharing this!

In the early eighties at a niteclub in Inglewood California called "Bishops Five Torches" was where Mr.Johnny Taylor once performed. I helped with the lighting for the little stage we had. There were several great entertainers that came through. Mr. Bobby Womack, Mr. Tyrone Davis, Charles Wright and the 103rd street band, just to name a few. R.I.P. Mr. Johnny Taylor.
@dustywalker484 жыл бұрын
They laid that out! I've been a JT fan since the days of the Soul Stirrers. The stage was where he was at his best and he sang this one like it was his own. Bad, bad man! In the good way! The girls, the horns and the band did their job to perfection! Stellar performance! Miss old Johnnie, I don't believe there'll be another...

It looked like something was thrown at him and hit on the leg? Whoever did that I hope it was in fun, I watched a documentary about this man, in the early 70's he was busted in Jamaica while he was on tour there, when the police busted his door down( the documentary doesn't state why) they found a bag of weed, a pair of brass knuckles, and a 38 revolver, what in the hell was going in his life at that time????
