The best ever. Those who missed seeing him play don't realize how good he really was. Shook hands with him once -- like huge vice grips.

I think he's a plant by Reds ownership.. check into his cozy relationship. It sounded like a bunch of BS out of his mouth in defense of Reds ownership... team owners always threaten that??? NO they don't! Those types of statements have nothing to do with "passion" for a team give me a fckin break. His timing on the show is very weird

Great childhood memories of Johnny Bench. He had a classic homerun trot with that lean when he rounded the bases with his head down. Known affectionately as "Hoss" to his teammates! A great credit to the game. Still get chills thinking about that opposite field homerun in Pittsburgh in game 5 of the NLCS in 1972. Still hearing Reds announcer Al Michaels saying, "Clemente to the wall ... It's gone".

Bench didn't really answer the question about what was different about the pitchers of yesteryear and how it is they were able to throw longer and had fewer injuries because had he done so it would have contradicted his nonsense regarding the asinine Kershaw situation and countless others like it. The more you coddle and "rest" the dumbed-down "moundsman" of today the weaker they become and less able to withstand the rigors of a real baseball game. The reason that you're seeing more injuries today among pitchers is primarily due to the lack of upbringing with regard to one's proper approach to the _art and craft_ of pitching. These poor saps have not been conditioned physically and mentally to look at the game from a "macro" point of view ; to see it as a whole ; a *nine* + inning affair hence perspective is lost and they've become far too preoccupied with the finer, mostly irrelevant, details. Each person/athlete is *not* cut from the same mold and while the so-called "Analytics" A-Hole will always hit you with this or that stat to counter or bolster this or that position regarding any one particular situation or player - what these fools don't realize and don't take into account is the human spirit; that which is competitive and adaptive so that while all of their "numbers" may appear to "add up", the truth is they really don't and in the long-run and that's what this is all about, after all .... _the long-run_ this ultimately defeatist attitude, loser/ "I can't do" mentality is what is most destructive . It doesn't make for a stronger on-the-field product rather it makes for a weaker , less able to adapt, less competitive, and of course, more prone to getting hurt in the process, "product" since one is far less prepared to confront and deal with situations as they develop especially if unable to access, in the moment, the "wise" counsel of his almighty "sabermetrics guru" ... *NOT* In other words, the more one comes to rely and depend on these sources for guidance the more enfeebled they become in their ability to maintain any true order in a situation that is inherently unpredictable . These analytics, pitch-count, sabermetrics fools think that they can choreograph every aspect and facet of the game or any competitive athletic event or endeavor they set their sights upon , it is this deluded thinking that is responsible for the degradation of whatever sport it may happen to be that they are called on to myopically pick apart.
