I was an adult by the time Mr. Rogers came on T.V. I accidentally turned on the show after work one day and heard Johnny Costa's playing and I was instantly hooked. What a phenomenal way to augment Fred Rogers's brilliance with Johnny's pianistic brilliance!

The music on Mr. Rogers is fabulous. The audience that a world class jazz musician can reach is pretty low, but everyone in America knows Johnny's piano. Fred wrote the basic song and Johnny would take it and run.

CJVideoProductions it was originally in a documentary made in 1987 made for WQED. A lot of Fred’s interview from the 1987 doc was used in the Won’t You Be My Neighbor doc which if you haven’t seen yet, I totally recommend. I too saw that extended Costa clip in the 1987 doc on here that but it looks like that segment was taken down. Some of the doc is still up here: m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oalgochnrt6aqXU.html I pulled the clip of Costa I used from the America’s Favorite Neighbor Documentary.

@worldlinerai
@worldlinerai 2 жыл бұрын
@@bo64625 Kimballs weren't that good of pianos, especially when compared to Steinway. Kimball aimed to be a consumer-grade midrange piano. They have made pianos for many years from the 1800s and at one point owned Bosendorfer (1966-2002). I'm not sure what led to their downfall, but a lot of people didn't like their quality. Piano makers have been suffering with many brands closing down. The mid-range market is mostly dominated by Yamahas and Kawais. Acoustic pianos cost lots of money to purchase and there are other cheap passions people can pursue than playing piano. Kimball still exists today but they're a furniture maker.
