A very favorite of mine from the era of music that will never come again: 1958-1963, Johnny Crawford had a string of absolutely great songs from a time that lives so deep in my memory.

Actor, singer, musician, and bandleader Johnny Crawford passed away on April 29th, 2021. He was seventy-five years old... He was best known for playing Mark McCain on the ABC-TV weekly western era series 'The Rifleman', it aired from 1958 to 1963 and he appeared in all 168 episodes... At the age of 13, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for 'Best Supporting Actor' for his work on the show... In 1955 he was one of the original Mouseketeers on Walt Disney's 'Mickey Mouse Club', he was cut after its first season due to a reduction in the size of the cast... Between 1961 and 1964 the Los Angeles, California native had eight records on Billboard's Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "Cindy's* Birthday", it peaked at #8 {for 2 weeks} in June of 1962 and spent thirteen weeks on the Top 100... He had two Top 20 records, "Your Nose Is Gonna Grow" at #14 for one week in August of 1962 and "Rumors" at #12 for one week in December of 1962... In the 1990s he was the leader of 'The Johnny Crawford Band'... May he R.I.P. * In 1963 he released a Cindy sequel titled "Cindy's Gonna Cry", it reached #72 and stayed on the Top 100 for seven weeks...

I met Johnny at his home in 1977, My Uncle, Kurt Grayson was his friend, Kurt was an actor and the Tijuana smalls man on TV ads and busses , billboards etc, also Doggo in Octagon, 1st pilot killed in the movie in Midway, A gangster in, A piece of the action and many more movies and tv shows movies and commercials. Johnny was very kind to me and told me about Chuck Conners telling me Chuck treated him as a son on and off screen! I see Johnny traveling on tour with his band all the time, Hi Johnny!

How blessed you are to have not only met him but have your Uncle as his friend!!! How exciting that is & what great memories you must have, of your interactions with Johnny Crawford , hearing his incredible stories/memories! So exciting that your uncle was actually friends with Johnny Crawford! I always wanted to meet him so much as preteen/teenager but then much later, I always hoped to see his name, on the bill, of one of the many concerts my husband & I go to here in western Ma. Unfortunately, I never got to see him! Adore that man then, as now! Thanks for sharing your special memories with us all Kd! Take care!💜

I grew up in Wisconsin (1945), now in Tucson, AZ. His songs below are on my PCs & car usb. Excellent recordings from the greatest era in pop music: DooWop thru early Motown 1957-1963 Your Nose Is Gonna Grow; Rumors Proud; Patti Ann; Devil Or Angel; Cindy's Birthday Johnny has Altzheimers, so his songs mean even more to me now.
