I saw Johnny in Melbourne Fla. and my husband surprised me with front row seats and my husband ended up in the hospital and insisted I go to the concert I went with a friend and When Johnny sang 16 candles he stood right in front of me and had looked right at me I cried and felt so lucky! He truly was such a talent and moving I do miss him and listen to his songs and remember my special moment!!🥲😘

Absolutely a great live performance of it by Johnny, but I think Bobby Hatfield's live performance is even better than Bobby's recorded version. Two great singers left us much too early.

The version that was most popular in the 1960's was by Bobby Hatfield. It was credited to The Righteous Brothers. There's a live performance on KZfaq from the Andy Williams Show. It's the only version that's better than this one.

I’ve heard the original artist sing this song, in fact a couple of African American singers recorded it in the late 50s early 60s, their names I can’t recall but their versions were OK, Elvis did a pretty good job, I’ve just listened to Johnny Maestro sing it and he did a really good job, but Bobby Hatfield really owned this song, no one could match him and no one ever will.
@almanook3005 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the individual listener. They have life experiences others can't duplicate, and they react differently. The African American singers who hit the Top 10 bestseller pop charts in the first half of 1955, were: Al Hibbler, who hit #5 and Roy Hamilton, #8. The top seller was by Les Baxter and his Orchestra. I love Bobby Hatfield's much later version and he had all kinds of time experiencing different styles and ranges. There was also much advancement in sound by that time. The song is adaptable to many different vocalists such as beautiful John Gary's and even Harry Belafonte and they capture many different listeners' hearts!
