Originally an 'L'-shaped 16th century tower called Eliebank, the Cochranes renamed it Easter Cochrane and in 1733 the Houstons transferred the name Johnstone to it. In 1771 it was extended and in 1812 it was almost subsumed into a new castlellated mansion that was in turn demolished in the 1950's leaving just the old tower surrounded by a 1000 house estate. Used as a store it was converted into a private house.
