Thanks for this video. Found it quite emotional. I worked in Greggs in Johnstone when I was 16. My granny lived in Dimity street and I was brought it up in Cochrane Castle. Miss it a lot Now live in the Midkands. Thank you for this, fond memories 👍

My grandfather had a barber shop on the old Walkinshaw street right next to the pub as you walked round corner ( wee Malky Kerr ) walkinshaw street was demolished approx late 70’s and rebuilt and my grandfathers shop was knocked down also. Have fond memories of visiting my grandparents on Scott Avenue in late 60’s early 70’s time is fleeting my dad was right . Malcolm(Calum) Kerr

Johnstone is like a time warp back to the 1970s. It's one of the only parts of west scotland that hasn't been targeted by modernisation. And I love it for that reason. I think since Morrisons opened up the town seems less congested. I remember it was a mass scramble to do the shop at either the wee sommerfields or Safeway's. I remember Davey provan fitting me out for my first ever pair of football boots at provan sports on the high street and Woolworths being the main shop in the town. I'm not from Johnstone myself, but my family are , and everything important in childhood seemed to happen for me in this little town. My gran also ran a newsagents on the high street for a number of years, it wasn't uncommon back in the 90s for me to walk in and see either gazza or mccoist buying papers in there. Its a good place to live. That key cutting shop has also been there for as long as I can remember

I recall performing many shows at Johnstone Town Hall from around 2001 - 2005. Selling tickets at the Card Factory. Great memories. Noticed it hasn't changed much. I was also born at Thornhill Hospital as Gordon was. Gordon of course is well known World Wide. I am , not surprisingly, relatively unknown in the UK but of course a household name in The Netherlands. I jump on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Glasgow, having been welcomed on board by cabin crew who instantly refer to me by my first name and then once on the ground in Glasgow I am unrecognised. I must recommend Gordon's autobiography. Absolutely fantastic read. What a story and what a focused, genuine and honest guy.

Born and brought up in Johnstone. However, I was Glasgow overspill so it never felt like home. Left in 1979 and only been back a few times since.

How could you have been born in Johnstone and been Glasgow overspill? I was Glasgow overspill. Lived in Kinning Park and moved to Johnstone Castle in 1961. Went to Cochrane Castle Primary for a couple of months until Auchenlodment School was opened. Very fond memories.

Similar story, came from Plantation, moved into 'Little Corseford' in 1965. Never felt like home tho!!! Left Johnstone in 78, came back 85, left again 90 back again 97 but technically not to Johnstone.... Living 'up the braes' since. A lot of my friends are all Glaswegians who like me moved out via the 'overspill'.

My home town. Thorn Inn in the early 90's was a great crowd. Coanes and Sophie's used to have alternate 1am closing on a Fri/Sat.....good times. Never planned to move away. Been 30 years down by. Still miss home. Or maybe just miss my youth....🤔. Good video. Thank you.

Wow, I had no idea Gordon was from there. I am French and I lived in Johntone in 1979 on Quarrelton Road (my Danish boyfriend at the time said that explained a lot, ah!). I loved Scotland, I loved the Scots and even picked up the lovely accent to my teachers' dismay when I went back to Paris university. Your 'wee' was confusing my 'oui'. Long live the Scots and Scotland and our Auld Alliance against you know who...... Does not look like it has changed a lot. If any of you remember me I was your French exchange student teacher at Trinity and Renfrew high.....

thanks Dave, first time I have seen a poundbasket also lol. I havent figured out how to grow this channel yet its pretty niche with most viewers just liking Scotland videos. It might surprise you that sometimes when I put a Scotland video on the other channel I lose subs I think they just want to see the sun lol . I have a video with a history angle coming out tonight will see if it gets any more views I am going to test stuff.
