John Sykes was so good that Coverdale had to replace him with three guitarists - Vai, Vandenburg, and Vivian Campbell. And it still wasn’t enough. Sykes is one of the greats.

John Sykes was such a powerful influence on me as a 9 year old barely able to get my hands across the fret-board and then as a teenager with his $400 electric guitar still hungry to learn and practicing in his room. As an adult (48 year old) he continues to inspire. His tone was incredible and his command of the instrument stands alone. Lets not forget he is covering rhythm & lead guitar here. Sykes is a legend & I await his next album. Much respect to Mr Sykes.

When he says, "as we look meekly on..." that means just what everyone is saying, that Sykes is "God like" on the guitar - so much that all we can do is simply look "meekly" on. meek·ly /ˈmēklē/ Learn to pronounce adverb in a quiet, gentle, and submissive manner. "to keep the peace, she nodded meekly and smiled" Coverdale committed probably one of the biggest injustice to rock n roll by replacing this guy. At the same time, Coverdale summed up his stint with the great John Sykes by saying, "If John (Sykes) just acted on .02 common sense, he will be alright..."

Perfect Guitar Hero of mine. He's in my top 5. I will always love him! If a History book of Guitarists comes out He's got to be in it. Massively talented so Happy he's here to enjoy.

Sykes has used that same guitar, which is a signature model from Gibson, for many years. They were only commercially produced for 2 years, I believe. If you have one, it's rare and worth keeping. Now I don't know if they ever made any retros, but the originals are a rare bird!

This is what made my 28 year old beautiful blind wife love John James Sykes. She said...he's a monster. The best thing was leaving even though the mix of Johns guitar and David's sexy blues voice was a moment of legend. Virgo and Leo lol However without that we would not have blue murder like mustaine being fired to form Megadeth. God knows what he is doing. Sykes appice and Franklin was insane and showed us all that Sykes talent went beyond just some guitar player. 🐣

Some of the best recognised riffs are from Mr Sykes .........Cold Sweat , Still of the Night , Blackjack from the Tygers days and the awesome Ptolemy from Blue Murder . Can't wait for the new album . If you are a big Tygers fan have a look for the Jess Cox interview and learn some history on Mr Sykes 🤘👍🍺🍺🍺🍺

Sykes is immediately recognisable - whether it was with Tygers Of Pantang *way* back in the day, or with Thin Lizzy, or Whitesnake... John Sykes was replaced by some seriously talented guitarists, but the one that came closest to this level of musicianship and sheer ferocity, IMO, was Doug Aldrich! And Reb Beach too, of course - yet another criminally underrated guitarist....

I think that even in the category of the best players, which in those days were more or less everybody with a recording contract, there are these few that give everyone else the chills. John Sykes is one of them in my opinion. A lot has been speculated as to why he isn't performing recently. Such talents, since they are so few, are well deserved to ask a million upfront and are way better at home if they are not getting it

When John Sykes say “gtfo” 80’s guitarist wanna be’s he mean it. There’s no answer to this. It’s a absolute GUITAR GOD flexing and there’s nothing you can do about it.

You can clearly see at 3:00 that Coverdale is having problems hearing himself in his monitors, which is why his singing is a bit odd in the beginning.

Technique-wise (I may be wrong though), John has always been on the par with Yngwie, but despite this John has been severely overlooked by rock community, which is unfair.
