In Michigan where i live, the camp firewood stands usually have both hard wood and white wood, with the white wood being significantly less expensive. If your buying white wood its almost always cut up slabs, if you want a camp fire to look at it works really well. 😄

it seems to me some of that thicker slab oak could make smaller boards for craftsmen/hobby woodworkers to use in their projects. it seems a shame to burn it for firewood. a guy with a decent bandsaw could rip them down to useable boards. I often buy from Woodcraft's cut-off/scrap bins,to get cheap hardwood for small projects. you can do a lot with glue-ups,too. Heck,a lot of people grab up old shipping pallets for the wood, make some really nice projects from it. Nail holes and all. Happy Friday !
