These folk aren't cannibals, they're traditional Ogres. Ogres in early folklore were just giant humans with enormous mouths that had a tendency to eat other people. Tarrare, a mysterious constantly hungry person, was supposedly a fictitious medical record made after these Ogres (or possibly a man who's history was blended with the mythology as they didn't comprehend Prader-Willi Syndrome).

I feel like the 'ugliness' is meant to symbolize how strangers can appear untrustworthy and evil in unlikable situations. Either that, or the developer just felt like making their game ugly. Either way, it works

I'm guessing the Cannylis family weren't humans at all, as every human character had 'the human' next to their name Another comment said something about traditional ogres. That might be it

Manly has such a soothing voice it doesn't even make this game that scary

Manly, at this game: "ugly(affectionate)" "jank(affectionate)" and he's absolutely correct

The art style is hideous and I love it, they've made this perfectly weird look that works for horror. I also quite liked Nora and Louie, they have a good sense of banter established even despite the game's short length. The knife animation and speed of attack is the highlight here, it's jank and glorious.

Insinuates that "Butcher Valley" might have someone good with cars. > Didn't go to Mechanic Valley

The dice-game encounter reminds me of the chapter "Riddles in the Dark" in The Hobbit - the consequences of losing are dire, and with no risk to your opponent (who will not admit fairly to losing).

Flash animation gives things that are 2D a claymation sense to them. I REALLY like it. Also, if someone has the last name Cannilys, which looks a lot like Cannibal, that's probably a sign lol

As soon as you mentioned Dark Crystal, I knew why that scene seemed so familiar. Not only that puppetry sort of feeling, but that scene where all the Skeksis are just completely gorging out at the table all disgustingly

I'm surprised there was no corny twist to this. I was ready for it all to be a misunderstanding, the fox to be a hallucination, Nora to be a serial killer, etc. Not that the cannibal trope can't be good played straight, though with this kind of Hangry Family setup you'll risk attracting comparisons to RE7. I couldn't quite vibe with this art style but I respect that they went for grotesquery and nailed it.

I love it when game characters have this kind of flash animation movement to them, it's kind of nostalgic

I think I deciphered the title. It says “join this family for meat cakes that “are not” made out of humans but hurry, they are very hungry”

As much as I liked the art style and direction of the game, I feel like the boss fights can be a bit tedious to do, especially when you have to mash the key so many times. Plus, we don't get to explore more on this game and its background.

This man’s voice has no right being this calming and buttery, it’s one of the reasons I like the videos (aside from the actual games)

I thought there’d be two endings: one where you had some cake and one where you didn’t. I assumed that if you ate some cake you get obsessed with the taste and start making the cakes yourself in your hometown. I wonder what the cake choice was for?

I wish it were longer though, like I thought eating the cakes would have transformed you into one of the Cannilys since the other humans they met also looked like them. Also the thing about Alexandria? What was that about? I'm guessing she was a victim of course, but I wish we found more letters from her, just for a little more lore. And then the ghost apparitions helping us from the cake monuments, who are those? Is that also Alexandria or the other humans in the meat cake? Otherwise, interesting game! No wonder the fights are easy, they were still alive.

You know, I think manly’s the only person who could read you a horror book as a bedtime story and have it be more effective

When you said "Jank-Core" that is exactly what I had in mind. The discordant piano, the janky motion tweening, everything was so "pivot"-y. One thing I'd say though is that the boss encounters were quite generic, but I guess it's a 3-minute stint.

I love when people make custom artstyles for their games. Yea there's some good 'realistic' stuff but this makes me think of children's storybooks- specifically the 'animated' ones where you controlled the motions of the characters- and how some of them often felt just a bit off-putting or intimidating due to how they were drawn.

I swear if someone doesn't hire this man to be a voice actor.

I actually like the character designs and the animations. They make them look bad and grotesque on purpose and that to me actually makes the game even better.

I really like how unnerving and uncanny this style is and the music is great not so intense it gets your blood pumping but just enough to keep you at the edge of your seat I'd love a whole 8-12 hour game like this

this game gives me an adventure time vibe,, especially with labels like "Nora the human" and "louie the fox". and also the furious stabbing. very nice. thumbs up

Every time they started a boss fight I would have instantly said "You may know how to make meat cakes, but I know how to make corpses" Also I would have totally made the family into meat cake and stole their rich property.... Like its free real estate.... Sadly the family lived xDD

Ok but the way they kinda walk during the boss battles are kinda funny (especially with the music). 10/10 would watch you play it again (and I have)

My God those characters have such a "special" look that they need to be called something like "Nora the human"

Alright, the aesthetics are probably this game's only strength for me. The dialogue could've used a proofreader to catch all the errors, the 'action scenes' felt a little drawn-out with the exception of the last one, and one of the characters in particular didn't really act in a way that made sense to me. I expected better from a Stardew Valley sequel. :(
