In this video, "Joining The Marines In 2022? | 8 Things To Consider!" I will discuss 8 things you should consider before you make your decision!
As a Marine Corps Veteran I understand what you're going through.
The decision to join the Marines is exciting, but one that should not be taken lightly.
I was in your shoes before and remember being so hungry for information, but I had nowhere to go to get my questions answered.
Marine Corps Basic Training is difficult no doubt, but with the right mindset anyone can earn the title of United States Marine!
I created For The Corps because I wanted to create a resource that I wish I had when I joined the Marine Corps in 2010.
I remember how little information there was back then and how I really didn't have any resources to find the answers to my questions.
Well, you've got a resource here at For The Corps.
I aim to give you guys the raw truths about joining the Marine Corps, my experiences, and any other bit of information that will help you!
The fear of the unknown is a real thing and I aim to shed some light for you and make you guys realize that you CAN and SHOULD go after your dreams.
Fear is always going to be there, but its what you choose to do about it that will truly determine where your path leads.
Go after your dreams fearlessly, be aggressive, embrace the suck and stay humble!
Semper Fidels,
Tony (Sergeant, Marine Corps Veteran)

If you want to be tested and are looking for an adventure, join the Marines. If you want just a job join another service. I spent 28 years as a Marine and retired in 2006. There are great moments with buddies that you will never forget. However, there are also things that can happen during combat that can test your soul and character. Be sure this is what you want. This is a good brief for young students that are trying to figure out how you want to start your life. Semper Fi!

I've seen alot of channels about Marines, this is one of the best. IMO. The advice is solid. Most have a negative vibe. I'm a Marine vet, my son is active now. He was fortunate to have the correct mindset and guidance from me prior to enlistment and of course ongoing. Most don't, for what it's worth, I highly recommend this channel. I know I'm late to the party but it just showed up in my feed.

Great advice! I'm 18 in my senior year of high school with a part-time job and have wanted to be a Marine for a good four years now. I've talked to multiple branches but the Marines have the highest spirit. I'm concerned about basic PT as I'm overweight but I've hired a personal trainer and began trying to eat better as well as watching many of yours, and related videos recently for guidance and learned a lot. How do I become better at having a higher endurance and knocking my weight down?

I joined straight out of highschool at 17 yrs old. If you're worried about your weight you will be fine. Loosing weight comes naturally. Your body will adapt. What you have to focus more on is training yourself to never give up. Mindset. Mind over matter. Marine corps is very physical but more mentally demanding.

You are so underrated! I’m 16 in my junior year I’ve been doing bodyweight exercises and I’m wondering if I should keep doing them or should I do lifting instead or both? What is best for the marines? Thank you for the very helpful videos and thank you for your service!!
@ForTheCorps
@ForTheCorps 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, that means a lot! Just trying to give advice I wish I had when I joined! I would recommend doing both. With the weight lifting I wouldn't worry about getting too crazy with it. Get as crazy as you want, but do it safely. Just try avoiding injury, obviously. Work on good form, slow and controlled movements. Focus on good repetitions as opposed to just carelessly throwing around weight! I love incorporating weighted body weight exercises. You can use a weight belt to hold the weights between your legs for pull-ups or hold a dumbbell in between your feet. With pushups, try throwing a plate on your back. Same with crunches or hanging leg raises. I love getting creative with shit. Hows your cardio?

When I went in in 1973 in Royston Georgia, at the Army induction Center The doctor said sit in the brown chair which I did, he said eyes perfect. Then he shot the floor with a 38 caliber pistol when I jumped, he said hearing perfect. Then he asked if I had any recent operations. I started telling about my appendix operation five years ago, he said no no I mean in the last 3 days. Then he said your in. Now go take the oath. Craziest thing I've ever heard of.

I just got out of the Army as a forward observer from an Airborne unit, loved the higher level of discipline and skill paratroopers have but like the rest of the Army it became soft and undisciplined. If anyone did the army to marines change, please lmk what your advice is.

I knew a couple of guys who did it. They were older than everyone else.The USMC is a younger force than the Army. E-7s run the Army. E-5s with an attitude run the Corps. It will be a much harder adjustment than you think. I loved being a Marine, but I was 17 when I joined. 20 when I made E-5 and 22 when I got out. For you it might be like a prison run by teenagers. Do your research. Good luck.

Thanks for the great vide! I'm 17 in my senior year and I've wanted to be a marine for a few years now. My biggest concern is basically all the PT stuff, I'm pretty average when it comes to physical strength but I suck at running. What would be your advice to get better at running or more physically fit in general?
@ForTheCorps
@ForTheCorps 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Simple answer would be just to do more of it. Honestly, when it comes to working out and running you just need to be consistent. Set goals and get them done. With working out I’d recommend body weight exercises mixed with some weight training. As for running, I would just work on doing more of it. Run for distance, but mix it up. Work on a mile and overtime work up to three miles. Do sprints as well. There are plenty of free running programs out there, but what works for me is just throwing in some headphones and getting in my head and pushing through it. Hope this helped!

I, too, was a short guy not good at running, but I practiced enough to make sure I always finished. And even though I only made Marksman on the rifle range, I excelled at everything else such that I graduated in the top 10% of my platoon, to earn the rank of PFC. Look at a lot of Marine graduation videos and take note of the people in the ranks. The vast majority are just typical people of typical size and ability (but also meaning they are neither super jocks nor fat-boy couch potatoes). The main thing is if you're in good physical condition with no medical problems, YOU CAN DO IT. But more than ANYTHING else, I attribute my success to, "I WILL succeed or die trying. Failure is not an option." Marines are average people who the Marines transform into outstanding, fearless warriors. That's THEIR job. YOUR job is to allow it to happen by never quitting. Good luck.

@@nordsterntheelder1610 An Interesting thought just occurred to me. Often people will say, "I'll try" (as you did) but this leaves an opening for failing, which allows one to say, "Well, at least I tried." My recommended statement about commitment is simply, "I will do it." PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION ... because if you don't do it, you will be dead from TRYING, right? Like the story about the little choo-choo: "I think I can" and "I know I can" just doesn't have the commitment that "I WILL" does. As for Marine boot camp, while you might actually enjoy some of it, most of it--I dare say--you will not. But keep in mind, it's only 13 weeks long. But you're going to have a grin on your face so big when you get the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor pressed into your palm, you're face is gonna crack. Now, repeat after me: "I WILL succeed."

Dude, any questions you got I’d be more than happy to answer them. Obviously I’m biased to the Marines, but the Army isn’t bad either. Just depends on what you want to do. I think becoming a Marine is something you know you want to do. It’s a proud title to hold and that’s one of the reasons I opted to join. I thought of the Marines as the toughest branch and that’s the route I went. For you it all depends on what you want to do. Life’s short and if you’re thinking about joint I would say go for it because you will regret not doing it at some point. It’s only 4 years and you’ll get a hell of a lot of lifelong benefits out of it. Good luck on whatever path you choose and don’t hesitate to reach out! Also, join the Discord Community!

My Son Left for MCRD San Diego yesterday! Got the phone call last night. Oooorrraaahhhh! On the subject of some guys who hated being in the Marine Corps. I personally loved my time in the Corps (1982-1996) I did notice that the ones who hated being in were because of Fucked up NCO's. I was lucky. I had awesome Corporals and Sergeants in the FMF (2nd Mar Div) who cared about their Marines. When I was in Mess and Maintenace in boot camp I worked with an awesome SGT. He could have dogged the crap out of me, but he treated me with respect because he knew I was a scared recruit and didn't take advantage of that fact! When I picked up rank, I aspired to be just like them. But I did see power hungry Corporals and Other NCOs in other platoons who abused their rank and turned what could have been Great Marines into bad ones who couldn't wait to get out!

Is it still worth doing Military Police in the Marine Corp?? Because I heard that the Government has been getting rid of some jobs in Marine corp MP. I am curious so in case I need look into other MOS's in the Marine's.
@ForTheCorps
@ForTheCorps 2 жыл бұрын
That's something you'll have to ask your recruiter. I know they were going to deactivate all three law enforcement battalions, but I'm pretty sure a very small amount of individuals will still hold the MP MOS. You may have a shot, but I would not bet on it. I would still look into other options just in case.

Hey Tony, I am currently 17 years old and I what to join the marine corps, and I was wondering if there is any advantages of going to college before joining if I don’t want to be officer.
@ForTheCorps
@ForTheCorps 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on how much college you have under your belt you can potentially graduate basic training as a Private First Class (PFC), but I'd save the money and just try and get that promotion meritoriously. I was promoted meritoriously out of basic to a PFC. You also will get promoted to PFC regardless about 6 months in. It doesn't hurt to have college under your belt though. You can use tuition assistance while you're in which will pay for your schooling, but its all done in your free time. I would save the money and have it paid for if you don't want to become and officer.

Honestly, I think the age cut off is 28. There might be an exception to the rule with some type of waiver. I knew guys that enlisted at 28 and they had families. They just realized later in life they wanted to do it. Go talk to a recruiter and see what your options are man.

Trying to decide between joining active duty Army infantry or active duty Marine Corps infantry. It's a tough decision because I love the history of both branches of service. Both have produced some incredible warriors. Army is giving big bonuses so I'm leaning towards Army honestly. I'm planning to be a career Soldier or Marine and do 20+ years. Any insight? I'm 27 years old if it matters. I just fear that if I don't join the Marines first, I'll always live with regret that I didn't earn the title or something, because Army has a higher age cutoff, would be able to keep rank, and wouldn't have to repeat basic if I went Marines>Army but it would be much harder going Army>Marines. Because ideally I would like to do both

Man I always wanted to earn the title of marine ever since I was little but during the current circumstances and political bullshit of our country, I might just go into reserves and pursue firefighting. Only reason to become a marine is to see combat and be one of those people, badasse but heard from recruiters they didn’t see combat and during peacetime infantry is not worth it so there’s that.
