Joint PDF find the constant

When the support for a joint PDF involves terms such as 0 less than y less than x less than 2, you need to be careful with your integration bounds. In this video, I talk about how to integrate this function and find the constant, c, which makes this function a PDF.

what if x and y have 2 separate ranges like 0

Yup. integrate x from 0 to 1, and then integrate over y from 2 to 3... or vice versa, you will get the same answer.

Why can’t the limit for dx starts from 0 to 2?

If the limits for x are 0 to 2, then the limits for y would need to be from 0 to x, and your integration order would need to be flipped to dydx. You can try this and you should get the same answer as me. The reason for this is because we are not integrating over a square, we are integrating over a triangle. x from 0 to 2 AND y from 0 to 2 is a square. Though x from 0 to 2 and y from 0 to x is a triangle. Also, y from 0 to 2 and x from y to 2 is a triangle.

@@Stats4Everyone So if we are given x ranges from 0 to 2 and y from 0 to 2, then we can integrate x with upper/lower bound as 2 and 2? In other words, it is because x and y's possible values are related, that we need to integrate one variable with another variable as one of its bounds?
