A square, tight glue-up joint is what jointers are all about. With this simple jointer tip you can make sure your board's joint is flat and tight no matter how accurate your fence angle. *Love the size and weight of this little jointer **MyBest.Tools** Easy to set up and light enough to pick up and put away. The adjusters and controls are dead easy to use. It has an aluminum deck rather than iron, but for those who are careful it should suffice, and it has a vacuum port that, unlike some other tools I have, actually gathers ALL the dust. Very happy with this for the price.*

I don't have a jointer, but I use my table saw with a jointing jig, but I run both boards at once. Works like a charm.

Neat trick. Do you experience any joint slippage from the angles under pressure?

If multiple boards for a panel, do the I and O marks alternate on either side of the boards?

Get yourself a couple magnetic squares and register your fence off those it takes 2 minutes and your fence will be perfectly square. I build guitars so I can't use offset glue joints, everything is based on the centerline.

that's a good idea to always do this is the Jointer can't be a problem to poor joint because if its done right you can't mess it up. if you are jointing many boards just do face out face in on every other one and reverse it on adjoining boards. if the | and / lines on the end grain look bad to you edge band it so you do not see end grain. I kind of think the / and \ or /\/\/\/\ would add interest to the finished product.

My jointer is square but I'll keep this in mind

In my opinion this is how you should joint 2 boards together no matter how square your fence is. There's always room for microscopic error so it helps either way. It could get a little confusing if you're jointing more than 2 boards together, but it should work no matter how many boards you do as long as you're doing the I/O on the proper sides for each joint.

also gives a bigger glue area if jointer fence not exactly 90 degrees

Nice, but much harder to glue because the parts will shift more!

This is a good technique but you still have to check for wild grain issues,(especially with using straight knives)If you have a bural on the edge you are jointing you can cause some chip-out of sorts. Grain orientation can be very important and critical in the jointing process. Good video though... Stay Safe, Greg

I think. in all fairness, you should have pointed out that the operator needs to pay attention to which side they want up and which side down otherwise they could end up with a good side down and a bad side up.

it will be works, but i think it is better to fix the Fence exactly at 90 Degrees and than you don´t need a i and a o 😜🥇🏆👍

You will always have a small error!! It my be only a tenth of a degree and not noticeable, but it is there. If you were gluing up many boards to make a wide something, you would probably notice the curve. The method presented would compensate for even a very small error.
Why do they call it a jointer when it planes wood?
