I don’t know if this is exactly true or not but apparently why Araki gives Jojo dogs gruesome ends and scenes is because he loves dogs a lot and he believes killing or hurting a dog is one of the worst things a human can do he uses that to portray how evil a character really is

What kills me about the Horse Doujin is that not only did Salty accidentally traumatize Marcie by having her research and see it, but cause of that fact the entry is just him telling the story. So the effort and research and trauma she faced was all for nothing. *#JusticeForMarcie*

Fun fact about the extremely passionate Straizo lover, in her angry rants she accidentally calls Araki a hippo, as she arranged the characters for "baka" (fool) as "kaba" which is Japanese for hippo. She must have been too angry to proofread her letter.

not sure if you’re gonna mention this but i think a nice addition to one of the lower tiers of the iceberg would be the infamous “josuke ending” of the most depressing hmanga i’ve ever read: metamorphosis (or emergence). essentially, the original ending where the main character dies of combined overdose and miscarriage (it’s very dark, i know 😭) is altered so that josuke heals her and changes her life entirely. the author even deemed the fanmade ending as canon 😭

On the localization name front: I actually really and unironically like Shining Diamond as a localization for Crazy Diamond, since it still references Shine On You Crazy Diamond, but with more legal deniability. If there were other localization names that work like that I'd be happy.

Also, as part of the finale, part of the scenery is that the sea is being affected by time speedup, being tempestuous and dangerous. The sea is one of the things more obviously affected by the moon’s gravity, making it a fun bonus.

@@inkbit2734 D4C is used as a shortened version, but the English versions of ASB and EOH specifically call it D4C every time instead of the full thing. Hell, the glossary in ASB even pokes fun at the change and and says "No one knows what this mysterious abbreviation means".

I read like 7 of the Alex Rider books when I was real young, so the knowledge that araki made art for these books in Japan is really blowing my mind right now. Every other adaptation makes Alex into a like short blonde boring YA protagonist so seeing him as a dripped out jojo character is life-changing.

Very small but I'm glad you gave props to how the OVA sound design is actually pretty good, especially for an anime of the time. Unfortunately alot of people nowadays shit on it because their idea for how jojo "should" sound is based on the modern anime's sound design and because it's so different from that style of sound design they think it's bad

I'm so glad you also agree that the person that saved Josuke and his mom was a stranger. I came into part 4 without the context of the timey wimy confusions that the fandom was talking about. (Cause fandoms are frankly tiring) And so that part touched me when I saw it. I thought the same thing- not that he was a good Samaritan, that's the whitest way to put it; but to show that kindness and humanity can manifest in anyone, humans are inherently kind to each other. OR at least most want to be, is a twist on a meanspirited delinquent. YES! I agree! Again thanks for having a similar stance, I think it adds to so much more interesting story telling than just having Josuke come save himself from a convoluted time/space scenario. Also nice on you for having woolie in one of these, man's a great person to have here and just great in general.

Fun fact: The Bucciarati hair corruption covered in the beginning of the video was referenced in a skit of Pop Team Epic, specifically a clip where his hair starts to recolor and become skin tone over the course of a few seconds, with peaceful music on top of it. The Pop Team Epic skit recreates this almost identically.

What's funny to me about them replacing the dogs with rats is that it completely destroys what Araki was going for. Araki is a huge dog lover, so any time a dog is killed, it's to make the reader go "That villain is a sick bastard for killing a dog!!" It was never meant to punish the dogs for being dogs, but rather to show how inhumane and heartless the villains are.

Ok, ok, for those who are curious about Girls at Night... It's basically, from what I can understand, a NSFW Jolyne and Ermes doujinshi. I OF COURSE did not read it, but I remember seeing some of the tamer panels, in which it's drawn in a somewhat cartoonish style. I actually do have a theory that this doujinshi is one of the reasons the Fujiko one-shot released alongside CDDH's first chapter was so controversial: they do use similar styles, and people just associated it with the porn comic. But this is just my theory on the situation.

i skimmed through the first 4 pages and it starts at the opening scene of stone ocean (you can infer exactly what scene i mean here) except they're both in the same cell i am immune to the horrors although i've personally never found a jojo character to be that attractive i mostly find them to be cool but whatever it sure is a thing that exists and the artist who made it is talented it really isnt the worst thing out there at least from what i have looked at at least it's yuri 👍 (although not as ethereal in the mental state it doesnt quite have the lesbian mind spells but ig it counts idk, im just wondering who buys these physically like ig people bought magazines of stuff like this before internet but do these still get physical releases? im pretty sure they do but like who is collecting this stuff)

Wamuu, Straizo, Avdol are a few examples as their names in Japanese are slightly modified from the references, Wham, Dire Straitz and Paula Abdul

the i love coconuts thing is referring what appears to be multiple translations of the "i love coconuts" line including translating it as "yeah, coconuts, boy do i love 'em. can't get enough!", "tasty, i love them. coconuts that is." and i love this one: "heh heh heh...mmmm i love it. coconut...yummy yum." it was a tumblr meme for a bit

Sorta correction: Technically yes, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" as it is uttered by Funny Valentine as an introduction was changed to "Time to do filthy acts, at a reasonable price!" but the stand name ITSELF is localized to D4C exclusively, not just as an abbreviation, like Foo Fighters being localized to FF. This is funnier in my opinion because in the All Star Battle glossary for D4C it says "No one knows what this mysterious abbreviation means." They were being so cheeky when translating ASB.

Salty you probably don't know, but back when the PS2 was released, Prince's lawyers, who are VERY sue heavy, tried to sue the game when an North America version was confirmed, which canceled the North America version of it. So maybe the name changes started there. Prince lawyers are still mega sue happy.

I actually do know about that rumor, but sadly it’s just that (a rumor). I don’t want to be rude at all, but there’s a lot of “fun facts” that float around the Jojo fandom that aren’t actually accurate. Trust me, if that was true and wasn’t just brought up by a random person on Reddit first, it would be on here! But I’ve double checked a lot of stuff for sources and there usually isn’t any. I’m guilty of accidentally spreading stuff like it was true as well, just how the internet works sometimes I guess 💀

@@Saltydkdan Of course, I understand. Although a North American version was planned but never released, and that's weird. Almost all "rumors" sometimes have a grain of truth in them (like the Prince's lawyers suing heavily, this is actually true) but I understand if this is a rumour, but it's not as far-fetched as it sounds, because Heredictage for the Future was released without any problems, and this game has no references to Prince in it. Hopefully there's a real reason why the western release of the game was cancelled, because the truth is probably out there. :P

Zipper Man is hilarious because between that, the color scheme, and the dance troupe on a boat, it gives me flashbacks to Pepsi Maaaaaan. It's like a perfect storm that makes me unable to not giggle like Pepsiman's pepsi guy at the sight of Sticky Fingers when I watch the dub, even Bruno's fate is hard to take seriously when my brain is just going ZIPPER MAAAAAAAAAAN to the Pepsiman tune. (Also while Father Styx was omitted from his story part in the Part 1 PS2 game, he IS in said game: there's an alternate scenario on the boat where Dio takes his body over to fight Jonathan if you achieve specific requirements in the chapter before, instead of fighting Dio's head and Wang Chun.)

The Phantom Blood PS2 trivia is wrong unfortunatelly. From the movie cast only Dio, Zeppeli and George Joestar retained their voice actors; and in Dio's case, there's a caveat as the voice actors for JoJo and Dio change from their pre-teen forms to adulthood (the movie actor only voicing Dio when he's already 18). There is, however, an exclusive trailer for Phantom Blood in the PS2 game in which they utilize some footage from the unearthed Test Pilot

To be specific, the trailer wasn't included in the game itself, but rather in a "25th Anniversary" pre-order bonus disc. The 2004 test pilot, which actually was unearthed and posted to KZfaq a few years ago, doesn't share any animation with any version of the film, since it was essentially just a proof-of-concept before the film began development proper.

on localization, I would like to point out that Sky High was changed to Sky Guy which is absolutely hilarious. When I saw this I was laughing s loud, good times. and since you've inspired me, here is one idea for a stand named after other manga Chainsaw Man - think of enigma but instead of it putting you in paper when you show fear, instead it just activates the user's ability which looks similar to the chainsaw hybrid vagabond - the stand activates when someone is away from any other human life for a 2 kilometer radius. The stand would lock onto the alone person and just stalk them in the shadows. Instead of having like an action packed fight we'd just see someone stumbling around in the darkness trying to deal with paranoia, all the while it lurks in the backgrounds. This would translate really well to the manga format 1:06:04 heirophant GREEN!

Regardless of whether or not you care about the localized, I think that we can all agree that Heritage for the Future and the Stone Ocean anime had some of the best (and sometimes, hilarious) name changes Some names like "Robber Soul", "N-Yah", "Ken-E-Gee" or "Drake's Dream" may look somewhat bizarre, but others like "Captain Teneil", "D'Bo", "Mary Lynn Manson", "Savage Guardian", "Limp Viscuit" or "Maiden Heaven" are a clever way to flip off a possible copyright infringement

I had a lot of problems with the Stone Ocean anime (that I mainly blame the Netflix acquisition for), but the name localizations were on point. "Smack" is such a good play on "Kiss". Just wish they found something better than "Stone Ocean" for Stone Free. Why would she name it after her idea of the prison?

Actually to add to the name change bit, Made In Heaven was initially called "Stairway to Heaven", which too was changed in the Tankoban release. Pretty neat how things like this shift on the fly for whatever reason.

About the "No abandon!" thing: 断念, dannen, also means "giving up", which would make way more sense. But "No abandon" is funny as fuck, so I will keep referencing this bit in the future
