You forgot to mention how Joker had his thumbs on safety trigger, so even if Dent tried to shoot, he won’t die. But he would have to live with the fact that he tried to kill a criminal and not prosecute him through the legal system.

You didn't covered one thing bro in the scene where joker offers Harvey to kill joker by giving him a gun he had his finger on the hammer of the gun as in case if Harvey presses the trigger the bullet will not shoot as the hammer will be stopped by jokers finger .
