Batman and Robin discover that the Joker has been working with a new sidekick this entire time! I'm sure glad random changes to a character's history isnt common place in comic books or else that'd be kinda nuts! Hahaha! Hahaha!

I like to believe Joker would absolutely just start gaslighting Batman and all of the villains are either in on it, or are pretending because they are scared of him. Like Joker spends YEARS taking photos of himself and photoshopping Zarbar into them, making fake news posts, just preparing for the ONE day he's going to completely fuck with Batman. Maybe he's had Zarbar in a bunch of villain lineups and just WAITED for the day for Batman to notice.

Remeber that time he legit convinced Bruce he was some kind of immortal being that had been hau ting and terrorizing Gotham since the colonial days, The Laffing Man. And the creepy bit was, at the end of the arc, he finds out not all of the records had been doctored... then it went nowhere cause DC writters.

It's baffling to me that Zarbar is only a tad stranger than Joker's actual sidekicks. One time he stole a baby gorilla and killed its mother with joker gas, then trained the baby gorilla to the point where it was not only an efficient do-crimer, but proficient with firearms and parachutes. It then gained cognizance after one of their jobs gone wrong, killed itself out of guilt, and left the Joker depressed for like 5 minutes. Zarbar is only slightly stranger than this.

I had to look him up and yes indeed, ZarBOR (not "ZarBAR") is an existing character. He is the same species of 5th dimensional imp as Bat-Mite and Mr. Mxyzptlk from Superman. Cancer rays are not really a thing they regularly do, but it's almost certainly possible for them since they're practically reality-warping gods. Zarbor only shows up in that one episode of the New Adventures of Batman and surprisingly nowhere else even though he would be far from the weirdest thing in the entirety of the DC Multiverse.

Reminds me of the episode of the Spider-Man cartoon that features a villain named Goron, who's some bald guy with eye laser powers that teams up with Doctor Doom. It's never explained where he came from or why he has eye beams that can do stuff like grow vegetables, teleport objects, and control people's minds, all we learn is that he apparently has some past history with Doctor Doom since he's fighting him at the start of the episode before Doom offers him a partnership.

I still remember the episode that aired on '98. When Batman defeated Joker once again, Zarbar shouted from the distance. When Batman turned around, Zarbar shot him with the cancer ray and got him lung cancer. It then continued with Batman cooking Kryptonite with his sidekick Robin and selling it to the bad guys. I am not going to spoil the end of the episode.

To be fair, being a civilian would be lousy as well (you might have a bomb strapped to you and Daredevil is the one rescuing you, you might have Superman try to get you to jump off a ledge, you might be a small business owner who has Rhino keep running through their building and/or customers, etc...). Even SolidJJ's versions of Mysterio and Taskmaster make being a villain iffy (Calendar Man, Kite Man, and Bad Samaritan are questionable even outside of SolidJJ lore).

This might be my favorite Solid jj skit. I love Zarbar. I've collected every DC comic he doesn't appear in. Those are the best Zarbar moments. The character is at his best when he's implicit. Like, you know Zarb's behind the action, collecting change out of the lair's couch for The Joker's schemes. Or possibly for himself. I like to think it's for himself. Zarbar's indifference to the world around him, and the plot in general, is what makes him click for me. He really deserves all the neglect he gets.

Well it's spelled Zarbor but I just checked and... he's real. Zarbor was a real character who featured briefly in The New Adventures of Batman. He wasn't Joker's sidekick but... yeah. Since he was a 5th dimensional imp he presumably could shoot cancer rays if he wanted to.

I like to imagine that Zarbar and Batmite are like those psychic parasites from Rick and Morty. They show up at your house, then manipulate your memories in order to ret-con themselves into your life. Then nobody even questions why Batman has a fifth dimensional fanboy who follows him around, yet somehow never uses his awesome power to help out. Batman himself is of course unaffected by this, seeing as his cowl is lined with tin foil.

Honestly, if I was Batman in that situation, I totally would’ve believed it. I mean, the cancer rays seemed like BS, until Robin mentioned Bat-Mite comes with on missions all of the time. I would’ve been like: “No wonder we’ve never shown any symptoms of Cancer! Bat-Mite’s been keeping us alive this whole time!”
