The Julius Kaesar visual gag is very clever. In German orthography you tend to write "k" or "z" instead of "c" in Latin loan words depending of the sound: Kalender = calendar, Zentrum = centre, Zirkus = circus etc. Latin proper names are written mostly with "c": "Julius Cäsar" or "Iulius Caesar", "Marc Aurel" or "Mark Aurel" or "Marcus Aurelius" (you may find the version "Markus" as German given name). To write it "Kaeser" is sertenly wrong, but you would write "Kaiser" (emperor), which derives from "caesar". And there are the two Latin pronuncations of the letter "c": "classical" uses only the "k-sound", "late style" uses "ts-sound" bevor the vowels "a", "e" and "i". Normally you would say " 'tse:sar", only a berd would say " 'ke:sar". And there is this joke: "Kikero und Käsar gingen ins Konkil. Der eine in Kylinder, der andere in Kivil." (correct German: "Cicero und Caesar gingen ins Konzil. Der eine in Zylinder, der andere in Zivil.", meaning "Cicero And Cesar went to a council. One with a top hat, the other wore casual." which is a play on these different pronuncations. And finally the news paper the mice are reading in front of the statue is the "Lauterbacher Käseblatt". "Lauterbach" is the name of many, mostly small settlements in Germany, "Käseblatt" (literaly "cheese sheet") is pejorative word for a low quality news paper, a local rag.

I think a possible localization for the bear/berries joke would be "Lots of berries I can bare".

Right off the top of my head is the Aldi bag in The Dalmations, which while an international chain, might not appear in other nations. Another is a cartoon version of Helmut Kohl showing up in a crowd shot of their Hunchback of Notre Dame, wearing an "Hannelore" t-shirt. There's also name dropping in the dub of Town Musicians of Bremen of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Marco Borsato, Pavorotti and Helge Schneider.

Very interesting! I started following Dingo Pictures since the early "Yee" days (when it was still only known in Italy). Over the years I bought a lot of Dingo DVDs including the super rare Animal Soccer World in Italian. Cheers from Switzerland. 😀 It's a shame that all of this is coming out only now that Dingo Pictures pretty much was forgotten by most people... this channel would have millions of views if it was still 2015. Well that's how the internet works I guess.

Of course Wabuu's name is a clipping of Waschbär for raccoon, which isn't totally a pun but is still not obvious in English. Wabuu also asks a bear once if he's related I recall, which references the -bär part of the name making it seem as if raccoons are a type of bear.

A little extra information to the Hooligänse: The plural of hooligan is hooligans in German, just as in English, however if you would "add another plural" on it, you would most likely call them hooliganse (note: German Ä is pronounced like most English As, so that wouldn't make a difference) so it's a double plural which is kind of funny by itself (at least in German because you have different ways to create plural form that are kind of random).

As a language nerd and fan of obscure/"bad" animations like Dingo, I love this so much! It also makes me think of the various cultural references in Bulgarian Treasure Planet (my favorite "bad" animated movie) that were lost in translation or changed to make sense for the English dub. I just adore stuff like this!

1:23 Actually, you COULD do "fat bearies", which sounds weird, but DOES work since the "berr" part of "berries" sounds exactly like "bear". Heck, that might be what the English translators were going for, we just don't know yet because we haven't found the English translation scripts yet. 4:54 "Alcatrabbit" could work on this one. Again, sounds weird, but I have noticed it before.

This is a big eye-opener. I never realised that some jokes / references got lost in translation; it didn't help that the English dubs were often lousy. The Mouse Police sticks out in my mind for a few reasons; one of them being the large amount of German text on-screen and references throughout the film, and I didn't get most of them. What was the name of that mouse who sold cheese in the shop?

You should do a video talking about the voice actors in the various international dubs of Dingo films, like how in the Italian dub of Perseus, actors such as Diego Sabre and Frederica Valenti previously did voice work for Dragon Ball. "Perseus! The most Yamcha Dingo Pictures character!"

Hello, thank you for your suggestion! That is actually already in the planning stages! We've heard that Claudio Moneta, who voiced Son Goku in Dragon Ball Super and SpongeBob, took on the role of Wabuu in the Dingo film "Countryside Bears." Unfortunately, none of our Italian friends could confirm this for us. If you have any more information, please let us know. Wabuu voiced by the same actor as Son Goku and SpongeBob? That would be amazing!

@@DingoPicturesDocumentaryI'm Italian, I can tell you that the casting you've been told about is not the most accurate. Starting with Perseus, he's voiced by Alessandro Rigotti but he's not the voice actor for Yamcha. Yamcha is played by Diego Sabre who has also played Raphael in both the 80's and 2000's TMNT series, and Shinichi Maki in Slam Dunk among many other roles. However while Diego Sabre did not play Perseus himself, he's still in the film playing Perseus' friend Ajax, Alessandro Rigotti who actually voices Perseus is instead known for voicing Sasuke from Naruto, and Leon S Kennedy from Resident Evil. I looked up both the dub of countryside bears and Wabuu's solo movie, and while it's weird to see more than one Dingo movie employing a competent dub cast and studio, I can confidently say Claudio Moneta doesn't play Wabuu in either of those movies. I'm not sure who plays him in Wabuu, but I'm pretty certain Diego Sabre plays Wabuu in the countryside bears movie, he does a bit of a different voice from what he did in Ajax but you can totally hear it's him. However Claudio Moneta still has some Dingo roles to his name, like the Donkey in Perseus, and the wizard in the Puss on Boots film, and even before taking over the role of Goku he had already played some characters in Dragon Ball such as the world tournament announcer, Zarbon, and Cooler. The reason there's so many Dragon Ball actors is because these actors worked often with the Milan based studio called Merak Film, which is famous for dubbing popular anime series, mainly DragonBall Naruto abd Onepiece until its closure a few years ago, leading the franchises they had under their belt to be taken over by other companies while maintaining the same cast.
