A step-by-step DIY guide on how to change the wire in your mig welder 👨‍🏭🪡🔥
Changing the wire in a MIG welder involves several steps:
1. Safety First:
- Turn off the welder.
2. Remove the Spool:
- Open the side panel of the welder.
- Release the tension on the wire by loosening the tensioner.
- Take out the old wire spool.
3. Prepare the New Wire Spool:
- Ensure the new wire matches the specifications for your welder.
- Place the new wire spool on the spindle, making sure it rotates freely.
4. Thread the Wire:
- Feed the new wire through the wire guide and into the hose assembly.
- Guide the wire through the welding gun's cable.
5. Adjust Tension:
- Tighten the tensioner to apply moderate pressure on the wire without deforming it.
6. Reconnect the Power:
- Turn it on.
7. Test the Feed:
- Run the wire through the system to ensure smooth and consistent feeding.
8. Adjust Tension as Needed:
- Fine-tune the tensioner if necessary to prevent wire jams.
Always refer to your welder's manual for specific instructions, as procedures may vary between different models. If you're unsure or uncomfortable with any step, seek guidance from a professional or someone experienced in welding.
** Bad Chad uses 0.23 wire because he likes how the smaller wire melts faster on the sheet metal than the 0.30 **

So glad Chad is willing to teach on his videos and he is right many times changing a spool of wire doesn't go that smoothly

Another tech tip for those that don't already know, crank your wire speed up all the way when you put in a new spool of wire and don't forget to turn it back to where you had it previously set at when you get the wire fed through.

Some good tips in this video and yep, you definitely don’t want to let go of the wire when threading it through. I’ve been there done that.

Hey Chad, loving the build! I know you wanted a certain look and I wanted to throw out a suggestionn that might be right in line with your Bellybutton. What if you made a visor style hood over the headlights? It would give it that tucked in look to mimic the slope of the bumpers. Just a thought.

Love the detail welding work on the French bumper. Wasn't sure about the low hanging fangs on the bumper but now I see they actually add to the overall front pulling the eye into the full picture with the front, headllights and downward and outward. Car is really coming together. Great work, as always, Joelene. Take care.

You'll get cleaner, better welds with gas. You'll also use less wire with gas because the flux core wire is hollow.
