I am Kenyan and this piece sums it all rather accurately. Kenyatta's rule has had an impact to this day of immense social economic inequalities due to the self enriching mentality of the Kenyatta family and their cronies. The family is involved in every lucrative business sector and suffocates the ordinary Kenyan. BTW... Harambee is not Swahili... but a chant the Indians who helped build the Mombasa - Nairobi railway used to chant whilst lifting & moving the steel rails.

Lumumba wasn't that a saint as so many people think he was, he died young, he died early in his presidency so everyone thinks of his unfulfilled potential but the truth is that given enough time he would have become another disappointment as he already was pushing for a wealth redistribution from the white settlers to the natives and he didn't look like Kenyata as willing to pursue a reconciliation policy so I would expect from Lumumba to became another Mugabe with time or the same as his executor, Mobutu.

@@egillskallagrimson5879Patrice Lumumba was killed traitorous Congolese troops led by Mobutu in co-operation with the CIA bcoz the West were well aware of the potential that he possessed and that the potential he possessed posed a threat to their economic interests in the Congo...The mistake that Patrice Lumumba made was to get the Soviet Union involved in the Congo Crises..he should have asked the Mexicans and the Brazilians for assistance instead as both nations were well experienced when it came to counter insurgents; plus both were neutral. Most white minority communities in post colonial Africa have refused to assimilate into their respective societies... preferring to hold on to their concepts of racial superiority and partenalism..King Baudin of Belgium made a speech on Congolese independence day stating that the Congolese should be thankful for what they, the Belgians have built and Patrice Lumumba responded by stating that Belgian control over Congo before independence was an era of humiliation and suffering for the Black Congolese community and that he would lead Congo into an era of glory and dignity..King Baudin was so enraged by the speech that Patrice Lumumba made that his government played a role in the downfall of Lumumba; the CIA described Lumumba as an unreasonable psychopath in an attempt to demonize him and justify their operations against him. For your own information,The West was responsible for the rise of Mobutu Sese Seko; they did whatever they can to protect his reign;they turned a blind eye to his kleptocracy and human rights abuses; during the Simba Rebellion France deployed Morrocan paratroopers to protect Mobutu from the Simba rebels. Note that the Belgians have one of the worst colonial reputations on the African continent; their refusal to show sympathy towards the black Congolese majority for their crimes against humanity; instead promoting their "racial superiority" made them well hated among the Congolese, who began organizing attacks against them upon independence. In fact the Belgians were so well hated that whenever a white man landed in Congo: the first thing the Congolese locals asked him was "Are you Belgian or not" If he said no, they treated him well If he said yes, well they made sure that they hurt him. -The Belgians were cruel colonizers who treated their subjects like animals and showed no sympathy for their crimes; as showcased by King Baudin's speech during celebrations of Congolese independence which had hallmarks of arrogance and lack of sympathy for their cruel crimes. And you expect the black Congolese majority to just forget about their suffering at the hands of the white minority Belgians, especially when they show no sympathy Be real man

Unless you are Kenyan a video on our history is not enough, our political history is deeply tribal and we're still experiencing the after shocks of our ethnic politics to date. The story of our struggle for independence from the British is biased to suite certain groups of people. The true heros of the struggle are rarely mentioned.

Mzee is pretty much the most sugar-coated figure in Kenya's history. As much as he was wise enough not to roll Kenya down the poverty trap of socialism like Nyerere did, he still had some very grave misdoings.
