This is a short video of how I launch my 1436 jon boat by myself.
This particular boat ramp is very flat and the water was high so I did have to back it up further than usual.
Some of this may not apply to people with big boats or depending on the style of the boat ramp that you use.
This boat is light and also has a slick bottom coating on it made by Wetlander, so I have to be extra careful that the boat does not slide off the trailer when maneuvering around the boat ramp area.
That is the reason for the guide poles and keeping it attached to the winch.
Any questions, please put them down in the comments and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for watching, I hope you have a great week, and I'll be here next week!

Thank you Jimmy! Good idea on the LED lights. I'm going to look into getting some, and yeah, it did take me some time to learn, especially if it's different trailer sizes. They all back different so you just have to get use to the trailers you tow. Thank you for the support again Jimmy!

If you have sealed waterproof lights you can leave them hooked as they are made to be used on boat trailers
@JTgatoring
@JTgatoring 3 жыл бұрын
They should be sealed. When I wasn't unplugging them I was having the bulbs burn out. Since I've been unplugging them I haven't had an issue so maybe they are no longer waterproof or something else is at play

Good tips ! Are boat ramp is hard to get in that one’s nice. I just got a 1751 Jon. Had roller bucks. I wasn’t a fan seemed to put to much pressure on 12 little wheels to I did 10 foot 2x4 bunks. You think that’s well supported? For the hull. It also has the little wheel up front like yours.

I appreciate the diagram, as the "steer from the bottom of the wheel in the direction you want the trailer to go" was not that easy to learn the hard way.
@JTgatoring

Haha, very true. I was lucky enough to have learned that way and it made it much easier. Also playing with trailer toys and learning early helped me picture it too

The way I usually do it I tie one end of rope to bow of boat and the other to the back of boat trailer,,everything else is unhooked and untied,,back it in the water with a bump of the brake the boat slides off,,give it a sec,,,then pull up gently ,,get out of the truck pull your boat to the desired location to go park your truck,,never get your feet wet,,,not wanting to make it a pissn contest,,your idea works,,just throwing another idea out there
@JTgatoring
@JTgatoring 3 жыл бұрын
Good idea! I have done that with bigger boats and it works great. I'm just cautious with doing it on this boat since it has the slick bottom on it. Thank you for adding that, I appreciate your input!!

I really like the way you launch the boat. I noticed your blue rope had some kind of hitches in them. What was that for and how did you do it? Thank you! BobbyC
@JTgatoring
@JTgatoring Жыл бұрын
Hey Bobby C, that is called a "chain sinnet" that is the way I store my rope. It shortens the rope so it is easier to handle and when it is needed, the rope will pull free and I can stop it whenever I need. If you search that phrase on youtube you will find how-to videos on it. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!

Hey Clarence, this was the last day I had the Backwater kit on. This was the first day I ran it after going through the engine and it still vibrated too much for me, so I am now going to put the swamp runner back on the same engine and if it runs as normal, then I know the backwater kit was the source of the vibration. I would favor the swamp runner over the backwater kit for what I use the boat for.

do you travel on the road with the trolling motor on the mount?
@JTgatoring
@JTgatoring 3 жыл бұрын
I do not. Its a simple clamp on trolling motor so I just store inside my truck and then put it on at the ramp and then take it back off when I go to leave. It has a quick disconnect for the electric

Just discovered your great channel! I have a chance at picking up a 1436 just like yours. I weigh 220 lbs. and intend to use it in river basins and easy rivers in Washington St. . I am asking your opinion on the 6.5 or 13 Predator on a Swamp Runner Kit? I am not looking for speed, just ample power. I will be with a 2nd person and gear. Money is not an issue. Also, do you think an electric start is worth having? Do you think I need a larger Jon Boat? Thanks, Jim
@JTgatoring
@JTgatoring 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, thank you for the support! I weigh 150 pounds 1436 jon boat and a stock 13hp engine. I get 20 mph. With a 220 pound guy in the boat with me, I get 17 to 18 mph. If you have the ability too,. A 1436 jon boat can only handle, and is best, with a 13hp engine. If you were riding solo and light, you could run the 6.5hp engine. I ran the 6.5hp for a little and got 14mph. If you are able to, and its not too much of a price jump, the 1542 riveted jon boat by tracker is a popular option for a two-person setup. The 1542 is best paired with the 22hp predator engine. If its two guys that are over 200 pounds each, I would go with the bigger 1542 rig and the 22hp engine. You could put the 13hp on there but I don't know how it would perform.

What is your purpose for hunting down a alligator ( 1 alligator ) ??? Are you eating the gator or is killing one just for sport to say you killed one. Why do you use a fishing rod to get a gator ?? I have known people to use a treble hook to bring the gator closer but to use a fish pole ?? No way.
@JTgatoring
@JTgatoring 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Darlene, there are a couple of videos on this channel that show the entire process and the reasoning behind it. There are many reasons for doing it; the alligator is a source of food, it provides a great usable leather, I enjoy the hunt, and the state says it helps manage the population. The fishing rod has a treble hook on it attached with fishing line which allows for casting the treble hook a great distance to be able to snag the alligator.
