This very legitimate animosity they had was so excellent. I truly believe to this day this was the best rivalry we will ever see in this sport because it wasn’t fabricated and they didn’t have to over perform to sell us on this beef they had with each other. These two completed each other in my opinion and their feud made their careers so epic to watch. You’ve got DC on one hand, The epitome of the good guy an Olympic level athlete who was a true fan of the sport and loved what he did and truly respected his role as champion. Jon on the other hand who could not be a worse person if he tried, especially at the time. Being a known drunk driver, hitting his wife, and running people over with his car amongst other legitimately terrible things that Jon has done. Jon couldn’t have been a greater heel if he tried, and the irony is I feel like he didn’t try at all, this is just who Jon was at the time. This was Jon going full sociopath like “I will win I simply refuse to lose this fight.” And I feel like even the way I describe it doesn’t do this justice, it was that epic lol. It helps too that I was a teenager during all this so I absolutely look upon these fights with very fond memories.
