People don’t give Jon credit for that Gane fight, but Gane is a big guy, he’s active, his striking is great, and he has power. For Jon to come back to mma 3 years removed, and fight the biggest guy he’s ever faced, and to finish him in the first round is super impressive. I thought it would go at least 3 rounds.

Anyone can get caught, look at Silva vs Weidman, it’s fairly obvious that Weidman was never gonna be and wasn’t better than Silva even when he KOd him. His reach does play a big part for sure. But only because he knows how to use it. It's really a combination of everything. Reach, athleticism, incredible instincts, he's super smart (high fight IQ etc), and he dominates the psychological game.

It’s because he is long and it’s an advantage, significant one and he knows how to use it well, his height and reach helps him with attacks and chokes. That is what I always thought about him, he has a gift and he uses it well, I imagine growing up with his older brother he learned how to use his gift well and the men that are smaller than him dont have a chance, only people who gad a chance was Reyes and Gustafsaon, guys his own size. The only people who really gave him trouble.

I think his natural size and reach advantage has helped throughout his career but he has used his limbs fully to his advantage. And one thing you can’t deny is, that he’s got no quit on him. Down on the cards, he’s always ready to switch it up or put a championship pace on his opponents.
