Speaking last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, comedian Jon Stewart talked about Dave Chappelle’s controversial SNL monologue, as well as accusations of antisemitism levelled against him for defending Palestinians.
Chappelle’s recent monologue sparked accusations against the US comedian of “normalising antisemitism”.

I was called anti-semitic for raising the same problem, Israel's treatment of Palestinians. They didn't know I am Jewish. Jewish people should remember what being dehumanized means. And I have seen too many Israelis dehumanizing Palestinians.

I wonder if it's an intentional decision on Jon's part (born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz) not to point to his Jewish heritage in defending himself against aspersions of anti-semitism for his views on Israel and Palestine? I can't think of a time I've ever heard him even mention it actually.

Even if they knew you were Jewish, they would still call you antisemitic to silence you. But like Jon Stewart, I appreciate your objectivity and honesty towards what is happening to the Palestinians. It personally gives me a lot of faith in humanity.

I am german and the US assisted in creating a certain "set in stone"-mindset on this topic over here, so if you think you cant voice criticism about Israels actions as a state in the US, then try to do it here, after having decades of over the top guilt tripping pushed on people, who had nothing to do with it, cause they werent even born then. There is a huge difference between remembering and acknowledging our past and its darkness, and criticising a government and certain indiviudals for their inhumane actions today. We are always told to never abuse our power again, but when it comes to power abuse from other people of a certain ethnic group, we have to act like the three monkeys...didnt see nothing, didnt hear nothing and we will for sure not say anything, cause there might be someone who will call us Nazis again. At the same time, we let arab migrants run wild with attacking random jewish people, who live here forever, in our streets for some reason. Its such a fricking contradicting situation.

Again, can you reply to the questions I made? Coz you have not. And also to the following: did the Jews represent an existential threat to Germany before 1931? Had any Jewish groups ever declared war on Germany? were there any Jewish terrorist groups? Yeah, the Palestinians have been living in horrendous conditions and Israel has a far right government. I have the feeling, though, that if the power imbalance was reversed, then there would be no Jews in the middle east within a couple of years. That same feeling is what drives Israeli attitudes towards Palestinians, I think.

Ones beliefs should not be inforced on another. A belief can be respected if it does not have negative consequences such as harming another person's rights. I cannot refer to a religious text that I follow to say that I own this specific land and that another group of people should expelled from here, it is very inhumane and immoral and should be treated as such.

To be fair, there are voices and human rights groups within Israel who are as horrified by the abuses of Palestenians as, well, as any moral person should be. As someone who is Palestinian, I just want the right to visit my homeland. I have no idea what family I have over there, my Teta left all that behind when she came to the US as a refugee. I would love to see my homeland and reconnect with family (if they're even alive).

Your comment is extremely condescending and inconsistent with reality. Some of Israel's harshest critics are the Israeli left and other liberal Jews, even though Jews are a tiny minority in the world. Jon Stewart is a good example. I can name ten more influential Jews who you have likely heard of who are critical of Israel. I would be much prouder of Muslims that publicly and unequivocally condemn the genocidal Jihadi Hamas' use of their religion to justify killing of Jews, and want Hamas destroyed (leaving aside civilian toll). I would be proud of "my Muslim brothers and sisters" marching in the millions to condemn the widespread anti-Semitism that exists in Muslim communities, just like they march against Israel. By the way, I fully agree with Jon that anti-Semitism is sometimes used too liberally.

When you are an occupying force sponsored by imperialists then don't be surprised where the rockets come from. The disparity between the Israeli forces and Palestinians in terms of military might is astonishing. The Palestinians don't have the luxury of dedicated military bases and precision guided munitions that can be dropped from a safe distance. What they instead have is an unelected theocratic militia that is capitalising on the situation, a group which would not have come into power without assistance of Israel . It's that "human shield" card that every apartheid sympathiser and Zionist uses to justify Israeli war crimes.

John Stewart is more social responsible than a person who hides behind labels. He is willing to put himself out there and have a conversation and not blame game as many do. I applaud his courage and mostly I applaud him knowing himself and having a good foot In community and a solid foot outside to know the difference that everything isn't always what it seems.

The one thing I really like about Jon is that he really IS open to learn and debate and doesnt just gloss over facts and complexity. I mean you can say he is alot of things but not a hack/mouth piece. In many cases he has done his homework and even then is willing to concede he doesn't know everything. In this day and age what more can you really expect of anyone?

@Sunny B The episode with Andrew Sullivan started with the preformed conclusion that America is a racist country and any questions or answered Sullivan gave were met with deflection or insult. The episode with AG Leslie Rutledge was a gotcha factory because they framed every non-transition treatment of gender dysphoria as condemning children to suicide. If the rate of gender dysphoria is only up because we're more accepting of it and kids who don't transition commit suicide, we should see an equally massive decrease in teen suicide coinciding with teen transness. The episode with Sen. Nathan Dahm was using manipulative emotional framing to paint Dahm as uncaring for child deaths caused by guns. Places with legal guns and armed security are safer than those without. Simple as. And when Fentynol was brought up, suddenly the number of deaths didn't matter? Not to mention that not only his latest show, but the Daily Show in all its incarnations have been heavily edited, framed, and cut to make anyone they interview that they disagree with look dumb.
