My mouth dropped when he said he had his check bounced and that they ghosted him. This man wore a thong on national TV, took bumps as an untrained non wrestler, traveled all across the world for them and they screwed him. That’s freakin WILD!

I once worked at a place for about 7 years. I knew everyone, and everyone knew me. I wasn’t the boss, but was part of leadership. Had almost everyone to my house for annual parties. I was well liked/respected. I had a serious health scare, and had to take time off to address it. When I returned 4 weeks later, the attitude towards me, was that I now owed everyone for covering me. Like I was off traveling the world or something. When my disease flared up again 3 months later, they asked me to resign. I was so offended I signed the paper in anger and left. NOT ONE person reached out to me to see if I was okay, or if I was even alive, until about 3 years later via an email. It was several paragraphs of some things that needed my signature, followed by a last line about “hoping I was doing better”. I told them to FK OFF, and take me to court if they want my signature on anything. Your coworkers are not your friends or your family, no matter what they say. Good people are rare. Seek them out.

That's brutal. The level of disrespect is crazy. Vince supposedly values loyalty over anything else, but then he turns his back on a guy that worked for his company for 20 years.

It’s a shame that Mr. Coachman got treated that way. He was such a great on screen persona.

My mom worked for a nursing home for 30 years. A model employee went multiple years with perfect attendance, did the job of 3 people, skipped lunches and breaks to get work done, truly cared about the residents, and had ood relationships with her coworkers. She switched to a less physical job that paid better cause she physically couldn't do it anymore. They didn't even throw her a going away party. She had organized countless going away parties for others. They didn't do anything for her and nobody even stopped by to wish her luck or say goodbye. She never got any appreciation for what she did there. Hearing her cry while saying all of this broke my heart and taught me an important lesson: your employer doesn't give a crap about you, you're there to work and that's it.

This guy never gets old. He looks the same as he was 20 years ago. Hats off to him.

This is exactly why you should NEVER show unbridled loyalty to any employer. No matter what you think, the employer is only loyal to the business, not the people who help them run it. 99.9% of the time, an employee or contractor is nothing more than an expendable asset.

Massive respect to Jonathan for not naming names or lashing out, despite being entitled to after such a disgraceful incident. Way to be the bigger man.

Remember guys, companies do not give a damn about you. No matter how small or big they are. No matter how many years you put in. Your loyalty means nothing.

It's disgusting how corporate will treat people. Coach is a legend in his own right. He wasn't even a wrestler, yet he was always one of the most entertaining parts of the show on a weekly basis.

I absolutely lived for The Rock and Coach segments as a kid. It was the most entertaining form of comedy in the world. Coach is a legend in his own right who needs to be respected. I didn't like the character he played (which we weren't supposed to) but I appreciated the man who went through the efforts to put that character on.

Learned a LONG TIME AGO that I could die on a Monday, be replaced by Wednesday and completely forgotten by Friday. Don’t get me wrong. I work hard at my job, but I also know I’m not that important in the grand scheme of things.

I can’t believe they treated Jonathan like that. His loyalty to the company can’t be denied and yet they still treated him like he doesn’t matter. I can relate to him.

This man was put through the wringer after being loyal and kind to the company for years. And still in this interview he’s still kind to the company; he’s expressing concern, bad business etc. in a way that’s still respectful. Class act.

Coachman was an important piece in the wrestling business of the WWE. Coachman definitely has bigger blessings on the way!

It's not so much that WWE "shouldn't" be running shows 52 weeks a year. The deeper truth is that we, the people, don't WANT 52 weeks a year of it.

Theres so many stories like Jonathan Coachman that spand across many industries, not just sports and entertainment. People will see these stories and still want Athletes/Employees/Contractors to be "loyal".

Beyond The Mat documentary explained it perfect on how Vince was doing his staff. Dude was super strict on missing a day or two. He would give them the boot in a heartbeat. Sadly tons of legends had to wrestle while badly injured & it led to most drug addictions.

I met Coach once when he was in WWE and he was a phenomenally nice guy. Talked to me for a while. Wish him all the best.

Coach was great man. Even though he was a despised presence on camera during the 2000s, overtime people learned to appreciate him because he was so damn entertaining. His segments with Eric Bischoff, the Rock, Stone Cold, Vince, DX, John Cena, William Regal etc were gold. Treating someone like that who’s been nothing but loyal for 20 years is just morally wrong.

And he was always an asset to WWE sorry that they didn't realize that, and i miss him but unfortunately I've been hearing stories like this, for a long time about Vince not being a good person and valuing money over people, glad to see that Coachman is still doing good and that God put him in his rightful place..

Coach came into my bar in Nashville sometime in the mid 2000s. I recognized him instantly and got him a round. Chatted very briefly, I didn’t want to impose on his time. He was a class act. Nothing but love for the Coach.

Coach was legit good as a heel commentator. He filled a needed role too as Lawler went off the deep end and started blowing hard around the time Coach was coming on strong

Most people credit a wrestler for why they still watch wrestling as an adult. Coachman is my reason. Won front row seats to a local house show when I was little, he got into an argument with me during the show. When the show was over he came back out took some pictures with me and thanked me and my family for coming and letting him go off script for the night.

Props to the coach for going about it, in the most mature way, he didn’t deserve that, glad he’s doing great now. Love seeing him on ESPN

I worked at a company for 8 years and it was an awesome place to work. During covid lockdown while I was sitting at home, I still got a full paycheck for 3 months doing nothing. Finally my boss rang me up personally and said he doesn't know how long this shit is gonna last so he gotta let go a bunch of people. I told him I completely understand and he sacked me. I respected the fact that he called me personally.

This is a prime example of how large corporations operate. We work our asses off, we're loyal to our obligations, and our "bosses" but we don't get the same loyalty in return. These companies are loyal to one thing, their bottom line. This is why having options are important.

Love the coach. You can just see he is over that place. I’m so glad he is doing what he is doing. He doesn’t need to go backwards and go to wwe. Sometimes in life you just realise you don’t need to be around negative work places.

4:52 Back in his first run with WWE, it was a private business 100% run by Vince and Coachman got used to the fact that if there was something that had to be taken care of, he *could* go to Vince directly, or he *could* talk to someone like Jim Ross, or Pat Patterson, who were some of Vince's right-hand guys and could get whatever needed to get done done because their word was as good as Vince's. When he returned, it was a publicly-owned company with a board of directors and executives, essentially a HUGE layer of suits and gatekeepers below Vince, who didn't care that Coach had previously worked there for 20+ years or had been unflinchingly loyal to Vince all those years; they saw him not as "The Coach", but as just another independent contractor who "can wait until we get around to doing whatever he's asking us to do". As Coach pointed out, for suits like that, there's no loyalty, and they sure don't care about relationships, or the little guy; they just care about their bonuses and the company's bottom line. Coach got used to that level of access in his first go-round, but his access to Vince was NEVER going to be the same once he left the company and returned after WWE went public.

"Biggest year financially" yet they petty out on taking care of the little guy. I see that so many times with so many corporations. It's sickening.

I know the feeling, I sympathize. Worked for different companies, knew people, got along well, but whenever a crisis came up, I was always let go. Several times. I believe in working hard, showing up on time, doing my best. But, NEVER trust a company. Sleep with one eye open, don't turn your back.

It sucks WWE did him like that but that’s a mistake most of us made, being loyal to a company is the first mistake you’re replaceable they can let you go anytime. Instead be loyal to yourself and do your best.

I work at a retail as a manager for 13 years now. I am amazed how similar problems they are in such a mediocre business and the WWE. The fact that they don't appreciate loyalty is just a huge red flag

This just goes to show that companies will want employees to go "above and beyond" for the business, but when it's time for compensation or a show of gratitude everything is lost. It's truly sad reality.

Never forget that Coach bumped for all the greats - including being verbally and physically berated by all the wrestlers we thought were ‘heroes’ growing up. The two owners of XFL are Vince & The Rock…. And neither of them reached out to offer him a hand. I guess the truth is that the Heels are actually the Faces in real life, and vice versa.

Met Coachman when he was a young sports reporter in Kansas City. It wasn’t very long after that he was on WWE. Good guy!

I am sorry Jonathan Coachman went through that. He did A LOT for WWE during his time there. The sad truth is many employers don't care for their employees. They can make you seem as though you're valuable, amazing, etc. only to give you the pink slip at any time. That's why no job is worth risking health, family, etc. I was shocked when learning medical faculty were fired from a public university where I work, because I thought they had tenure and did research that always got funded from external organizations. One did cancer-related research, which I always thought was essential. They got fired, and that also told me despite seniority, education, and experience...you can lose your job at any time. Don't be afraid to ask for a raise after doing so much for a company and see if they will show you their gratitude.

Throughout his entire WWE career, Coach was basically the embodiment of loyalty, and being treated with that disrespect is completely unfair. I honestly hope Coach gets inducted into the Hall of Fame someday, I think he earned it

It really was telling observing how the WWE responded to the pandemic compared to all the other pro wrestling companies. WWE has endless resources and was the least impacted by the loss of live events revenue considering the companies revenues are around 80% from their media and licensing deals. Yet they were the company that furloughed and cut people loose from the jump and continuing throughout while reporting record profits. Meanwhile every other company that were hit way harder by the pandemic not only kept people on but some even hired people that were being let go. Everybody gets the line of publicly traded and such but it was shitty to see that at the time where a company that has those resources really needed to step up for their people but instead was the one of its industry that was cutting everybody loose while a company like an ROH who weren’t even operating continued to honor their talents contracts. It’s one thing if you actually need to cut the costs but it’s another when you’re a WWE. But then again it’s not like them being ruthless was some revelation either.

I have always liked The Coach. He was a great addition to J.R. and King back in 2003.

I worked for a company for three years. Brought in 10 years of prior experience. Showed up every day on time, had to fight to get any breaks, was one of the highest performers because I could close a call in half the time. If I ever heard customer complaints I would do my best to adjust my work. The problem they had was that I did not plug the companies website all the time. I did not say all the required catch phrases to meet their rubric. My issue was that I only made 10$ an hour and had to work 6 weeks to barely make rent every month. If you can’t pay me a living wage, threatening to fire me does not work.

He's being extremely generous to them all the same. Not paying an invoice for services rendered is theft. Pure and simple.

Coach is an underrated legend

People don’t need you til they need you. Remember, people aren’t loyal to you, they are loyal to the need of you. Once their need of you is gone, so is the loyalty

He was so good on Mike. His commentary was funny and captivating. His moments with Rock can never be forgotten.

Coach's heel turn in 2003 will always by fave ever turn. It was just so random and unexpected and he took that ball and ran all the way with it. Heel Coach was awesome.
