I adored this generation of MacBook Pro design. It's what got me through university. I should never have sold it. Every day I regret selling that laptop.
@luciascarlet Жыл бұрын
I wanted to sell mine back in 2017 but I had so much emotional value attached to it as I learnt how to do pretty much everything I do nowadays on it that I asked for way more than it was worth, and I just got scammed out of it altogether... It taught me a lesson on scams but I still miss it, even though it was a 2011 so it probably would've died by now.

I never got why they call it "unibody" when it's just the top part/palmrest without the bottom. If the bottom is an additional part, that's at least a "duobody". If they manage to mill or 3D print the entire thing from a single slab of aluminium, and then somehow squeeze all the hardware into that to get a working computer, that's when they can legitimately call it a "unibody" -- unless you wanna count in the display.

+Olaf Klischat in comparison to other laptop,this is called unibody design, cnc machining a whole aluminum
@lawrence82996 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right. But having the main "body" part all built in one piece of metal is already great, compared with most others which are made of plastics.

At that time, this is the top Apple's engineering achievements in my book. It's a completely breakthrough and also robust enough to be used as consumer products. I mean, the level is precision is just unheard of during the era

'More parts leave more room for error' If this one part is chipped / scratched or damaged it will have to be completely replaced. Everything innovative in design always comes at a cost.
@mr.talhaa7 жыл бұрын
Multiple parts will brake into pieces if you drop, little scratch or dent don't need replacement.

@Macka00711 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine it was only picked up for the video, production lines like this don't usually require human intervention unless something goes wrong.

yeah pretty much all laptops are not good when it comes to upgrades and the same to pc's too too, they change the sockets for cpu's so often that "upgrading" only works when you use a cheap cpu for the same socket and later change to the best for the same socket when the price goes down...instead of being able to always use the newest cpu... of course there is still lots of things you can upgrade.

Not so sure that the aluminium actually gets picked up like it did for camera in that video ... isn't it supposed to be completely automated with no humans required?

@yanava5 жыл бұрын
PowerBook was made of titanium. It is very difficult to get titanium right the same way you do with aluminum. Not to mention the costs...
@patrickw.44224 жыл бұрын
Francisco Santos titanium is about 2 times heavier than aluminum and the cost may be 50 times higher.

What else would they use to make MacBook unibody enclosures? Definitely not Greek yogurt. I can't stand the stench of Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt comes from hell.

So tell us then, how in the fuck can you "upgrade" lets say Lenovo Thinkpad T series?? Just throw new cpu and gpu in there? How? And aluminium is not going to be wasted, it is recyclable 100% My current laptop is Apple Powerbook from 2005 and still using it. Now I am going to by the new MacBook Air with over 12 hours battery life. I will use it for 20 years.
