Why is this video 1 minute? Sheesh (Phil laughs). Yeah, UBIK's definitely up there, & A Scanner Darkly... VALIS was the one that changed my life tho, literally putting you in his head during his breakdown. After that I felt a distinct empathy & connection to him (like Mercerism) that never went away....

I go for The Unteleported Man because it’s both bizarre and humorous. It’s sort of like Alice in Wonderland.

It really feels like Dick is trying to promote God and religion with this book. Am I missing something? Or is this just religious propoganda to promote the idea of faith?

"when i was 14" What a shocker, nostalgia in full force. Ubik is a terrible book filled with potholes, false flags, pointless characters, and full of filler. Dick was not a good writer, there is a reason he died in obscurity and his books didnt sell.

He died right before Blade Runner was released, so he did have some money before he died. Either way, I haven't encountered anyone that can write pkd. Although he wrote many books in a short period of time to make a living, he did manage to write some incredible stuff. Ubik was weird at first for me, but then I understood the possibilities within the story.. blew my mind. This generation might not be ready for his works although there has been interest, but they could become much more inspiring for later generations - Tesla, van Gogh, Poe, Galileo are testament to that. In truth they are somewhat prophetic in nature - even if there's some rambling in his writing. I'd recommend 'The Divine Invasion'.

Christian Meza Did you just compare technological inventions to a random fiction novelist ? Sorry but dick will drown in history, libraries are filled with no names that somebodoy thinks should be more popular. Only reason his books are even getting any friction is thanks to ridley scotts movie and the fact that he did create in a niche market, s-f never really suffered from too much even half decent books. There are no possibilities in ubik, it has a nonsensical open ending with no conclusion. Not to mention the whole setting makes no sense, for them to be placed in half life they would have to be transported to earth, and if they died they obviously wouldnt get there. Bu really the worst part was that it sets up itself as different type of story only to turn 180 mid book making first half absolutely pointless. Why waste half of the space to introduce characters we will never meet again and that will play no role in the story, all those powers and stuff also was a waste of time. It jumps form idea to idea without never revisting the precious one not connecting into a coherent whole in any way. I read 3 dicks books, ubik, blade runner and dark mirror or something. All suffered from the exact same problem, no focus, filler and incoherent plothole driven plot. Space Jesus popping up randomly at the end of blade runner and telling Deckard to go on a homicidal murder spree since thats what god wants takes the cake, i doubt rest of dicks books were any better.

I made a comparison to those who were never given a real chance and were casualties of their day. Lmao, I think Androids did have an odd ending, I can't remember but empathy plays a huge part in books books, that was an actor in the end that helped people keep faith right? Religion always has been a rather weird double edged sword, giving people a reason to live and to self righteously destroy. Dick was very much into religion and toward the end he wrote about gnostic books he studied. If you really want to complain about something you'll have a hard time understanding then read Valis.
