When Jonathan Tiong was an infant, a neurologist told his parents that he wouldn’t live past the age of two. On the day he turned 24, he was crowned valedictorian for the National University of Singapore’s class of 2021. He tells CNA about navigating a world built for able-bodied people - and why society's definitions of success must change. Read his story: cna.asia/3n8zbve

He may be physically disabled but he's alot sharper than alot of physically abled people out there. All the best Jonathan.

What he said at the end was something to really think about. That he's getting all this attention and praise because he's achieved a level of success that is not easy even for an able bodied person. But we need to think about all the disabled people that don't get these video interviews and articles made about them. They live and overcome their own challenges every single day, and that itself makes them truly remarkable already.

Do not pity Jonathan: he’s got it all figured out, unlike most of the “able-bodies”. There is simple truth and deep wisdom in his words.

This is one example of why remote working + learning really needs attention: a lot of opportunities can be marred by lack of accessibility, even if there isn't strictly a need for interaction within the same physical space Those who refuse to adapt to remote tech are only short-changing themselves of talents that are rejected due to their disability
