Jonathon's 737 Throttle Rebuild 1

It has been almost three months since I last uploaded a video on KZfaq. In today's video, we will unbox a parcel sent by Jonathon, possibly sent before Christmas. Due to various reasons, we weren't able to take a look inside until now. Initially, the plan was to repair Jonathon's 737's throttle, but it seems to have turned into a complete teardown and rebuild project. We are trying out new techniques and making several improvements while at it.

Wow, thank you! Theres a balance now between time and effort. I get so many requests its hard to keep up, but i had this throttle way too long just to return it with fixed "broken parts"

Keep the Fusion stuff in. Always nice to see workflow differences between users. I know you do things different than I and there are a couple of things you do that I really liked.

@@helimech8152 I have a fix for your play in the reversers.. Instead of a joint, which in itself enhances play, use a fixed gear on the rotation () like the thruster half gear to pull and down the restrictor arm which also hash meshed teeth? the only play then, can be in the teeth on the arm rail.

Nice work, Karl! The Fusion segment was an eye-opener for me. I dabble in it, having no prior CAD experience, so it really gave me a sense of how you are able to "easily" reverse engineer an existing object into a 3D printable component. Fascinating!

That was my first attempt, trying it that way instead of measuring every part. It seemed to work really well as it was almost identical to the original. Thank you.

Hi Karl, great video on the reverse engineering for the throttles. I really enjoyed the F360 section with was very informative and demonstrated how to go about a project like this one. I am considering moving to F360 in the future so found it worthwhile from that point of view as well. I would say keep including it in your videos and the fast forward parts are good as well. Glad to see you back after your break too. Cheers

Just remember, fusion is getting expensive and I'm not sure how long the hobbyist license will continue for free. However, for my projects i have fallen in lobe with it and would hate to change from it now. They got me, hook line and sinker lol!

Thank you! The A320 is already 1 week behind and this has to be ready for sebastians visit in July! That in itself is a massive project which i need to get started! But i know it will be a fun one!

Great video, enjoy the FSExpo. Definitely more fusion stuff. I find following some fusion360 guides on youtube difficult as they are often done on older versions and nothing is in the same place. I can do gears with spigots and that's all I need right for now basic throttles but so much more can be done. One aspect of 3D printing that makes me reluctant to progress is how slow the printing is. I only have an entry level ender 3v2 but had no idea how much faster the Bambu was.

Hi, It all comes with experience and someone mentioned scanning the parts to remove the parallax error. I hadn't even thought of that! Everyday is a skool day!

If you've got a document scanner, it's a far more reliable way of reverse engineering parts than just taking photos and struggling with parallax error.

I love to see the fusion work cause it is my biggest weakness where it comes to design. I imagine that for people with no interest in design it would be boring but I have a feeling that is not really the demographic here :)

Thank you, the original throttle was good, but could be made so much better. That's the ambition of this project now!

Use should use the rotary dampers on the throttles. Authentikit uses it

Its coming, that's the one i'm using for the 737SS. The first version with pCB failed because i wired up the shift registers wrong.

I mean no disrespect, but your fusion workflow was painful to watch. Here's one quick tip: when creating multiple fillets, you only need to use the operation once. In the fillet window pressing the + symbol allows you to create another selection set with a different radius, meaning you don't have to have tens of fillet operations in you history. These sets can then be added to later if you need to by selecting the selection set and holding ctrl to add or remove edges to the set.

Unfortunately, its just the way I work and it works for me. It is by no means a tutorial on how you must do it, but rather an insight on how I do it.
