JONBON is too good for old rival EL FABIOLO in end-of-season Sandown thriller

Jonbon emerged a convincing victor in his long-awaited clash with El Fabiolo in the 2024 bet365
Celebration Chase at Sandown.
The pair had initially been due to meet in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot back in January only to be scuppered by the weather, while a possible Queen Mother Champion Chase face-off did not happen as Jonbon was ruled out by trainer Nicky Henderson during a tough period when his stable was under a cloud.
However, the Seven Barrows team has been resurgent in recent weeks with Jonbon quickly back in action after a hard-fought win when stepped up to two and a half miles in the Melling Chase at Aintree earlier this month.
Ridden with supreme confidence by Nico de Boinville, Jonbon (15-8) fairly flew up the straight, clearing the last with a good advantage and galloped home four lengths in front of the 4-6 favourite El Fabiolo, who made a couple of jumping errors as he failed to atone for a costly mistake at Cheltenham that had seen him pulled up in the Champion Chase.
El Fabiolo’s second place prize-money did at least ensure Willie Mullins was crowned champion trainer.

@musicmike1972 Aw Mike I just read about Shiskin.What a sad,freak accident. He was cast in his stable.I absolutely loved this horse.He was such a character and an absolutely brilliant racehorse. So sad 😢.RIP Shishkin. We all loved you.

Jesus Christ I'm sickened to hear about elixir and now shishkinn, I'm really really devastated, don't know how much longer I can watch this sport.

@grudeman It's devastating to lose a horse and Shishkin's was a freak accident and I know all the connections adored him.Elixir de Nutz was out on his feet when he fell and it was sickening to see.I love horse racing. I was brought up on it but at times like this I just despair.😢

I’m sure jonbon wasn’t right on his arkle run and the way he finished in this race pretty much proves it. El fab has some engine finishing well with all those mistakes but his poor jumping has been found out at a stronger pace. I’m sure they’ll race again many times and it might well be 50-50 chance who wins each time!

Anyone seen Martin Abdul Henry Lewis anywhere today? I've lost count of the grade 1s this so called yak has won now. What's your excuse for him beating the best 2 mile chasers around after winning over 2 mile 4 only 2 weeks ago. Time to have some humble pie and admit you were wrong yet again about a horse.

Elixir de nutz is the horse & the jockeys a idiot fucking asking for more of the bridle when the horse is never winning or placing & riding him into the final like he’s got every chance to win is shocking tbh I’m not surprised he didn’t make it
