To those wondering why the Alien wasn’t interested in Jonesy, it’s because he was useless to the Alien. He was too small to be any kind of viable host/incubator for morphing an egg or to host another embryo. And he was too small to be considered a threat. Because of those reasons, Jonesy was allowed to live.

I prefer the theatrical cut of this, if only because the cat is staring right at the alien rather than just looking for it's dinner bowl off set somewhere.

I like both versions. In the novelisation, when Ripley is in the Narcissus and tries to hide for the Alien, the xenomorph toys with Jones in the box, up to the point where it gets really violent and Jones is beyond himself. Always wondered if they filmed that, but I guess it would be difficult and harsh to get the "actor" cats to that point

I have a theory that may not be as far-fetched as most might think. When the alien sees Jonesy in his kennel, it seems curious and checks out the kennel. They had interacted briefly during Brent's death and the alien had to have noticed that Jonesy was free range and went wherever he wanted in the ship. In the director's cut, the alien swipes Jonesy aside as if in frustration. It's at this moment that the alien realizes that Ripley is trying to escape the Nostromo in order to kill it. Remember. The alien is technically part-human (having birthed from Kane's body) and likely has some level of human intelligence. That's why the next time we see it, it's on the escape shuttle with Ripley.

I think Jonesy was a spy for the Weyland-Yutani corporation. It was therefore they knew what was going on on Sulaco. It couldn't have been Ash,since he was demolished sooner in the movie. Perhaps did Jonesy have some kind of camera in his eyes,that sent information back to Weyland-Yutani? The same on the spacestation? But was there a competive corporation involved ? It opens up for many scenarios ??

It was trying to let jonesy out so they can both be bad together. Little did it know that jonesy was going to sell it out eventually. Well we all know since he's an orange Kitty its a given he'll end up doing something rotten.

See, in The Theatrical Version, they are *CLEARLY* communicating, non-verbally - it *looks* as though they are establishing some kind of an alliance, a non-aggression pact, or at least a non-verbal agreement *not to try to fuck with each other* and *respect The Territoriality Principle* (“Don’t go down into The Scary Basement - just let The Big Fucker KEEP it.”), which The Humans violate continually and get punished for it (by getting eaten, killed and f**ked (and not necessarily in that order, either.)) In The Director’s Cut, The Cat is clearly TERRIFIED, wants to run away but CAN’T, and so He violently swats the sealed container to one side upon realising that he doesn’t have small enough hands to release the catch, and let The Cat try to run away so that he can CHASE it, and eat it - The Problem (for him) with THESE humans is that they don’t run away, they just stay standing, frozen in place with fear, which means that He doesn’t get to have a decent hunt out of it by making sport out of chasing down his prey. The Humans in Alien 3 are PERFECT prey - they run away all the time.
