the fact that the "other " 2 players had their quests fullfilled, even if they were difficult show your level of professionalism. Not sure if i'm backing the kickstarter, but you got a new patreon. Keep up the good work

Got my Isle of Cats kickstarter a few days ago. It arrived the same day as Maracaibo, so I've been playing Maracaibo instead. But, I'm ready to switch games. Thanks for the video. It helped me A LOT.

Excellent playthrough as always Jon, this looks like an exciting game with a lot of replayability given all the different card and cat combinations. I wonder how long blue was stockpiling cards for that mega cat pick up on round 4. XD I was worried that your lesson cards were working at cross purposes that were going to hurt you especially given how efficiently blue was setting up their cat families but man that just came together so beautifully at the end there with massive scoring.

I think green’s downfall was focusing on that 15-cat limit lesson card. The only way to benefit from such a private lesson, would be to focus on getting at least 10 cats of the same family in order to compensate for the empty rooms and mice at the end of the game. Overall seems like a fun game to play every once in a while. I've been looking for a "tetris style" game with an interesint theme and what better theme than cats!

I think you may be right, they took that Lesson on the very first turn and didn't leverage it terribly well in this play unfortunately.

Public lessons seem... not good. If they're drawn in the final rounds, sure, you only play them if you're going to benefit. But in the early rounds, you never want to pay for a card your opponents can benefit from. Maybe if they cost negative fish (IE you get bonus fish for helping everyone out) they'd be more appealing.

I agree that they are more situational vs private lessons, so you really do only want to play then when you are sure you'll gain more from it vs your opponents. With that in mind you can make a decent amount of points for just 1 fish which can be a great return on investment if played at the right time.

@@JonGetsGames Also, thank you for the fantastic videos. As far as I'm concerned, you're the best board game play-through producer out there. I appreciate the work you put into describing the thought process of playing, and the fantastic editing as well. You've sold me on games I wouldn't have looked at, and saved me from buying ones I was excited about. Personally, I prefer the longer version where you do the whole run through in a single video, as it's easier to leave on in the background, but the split tutorial isn't a big deal. I definitely recommend you to anyone looking to find out more about a game.

I feel like the Oshax cats are always worth it, because yes they cost 5 fish, but if you consider rescuing a regular cat (unless you have permanent baskets) you first pay for baskets and then for the cat, so they end up being just as expensive if not more than the oshax

They are certainly great to pick up. I think I have passed up on them in past games in specific situations, but usually did take them when offered.

So what was the reason for the change in format from one full length video to two videos?

See Jon's response from his update vlog this month: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pt9ng8ajqreZdqs.html But to try to summarize, he wants to keep the video length shorter for the tutorials. This is because people who don't know the channel may decide to watch a 30 minute tutorial, while a 2 hour tutorial and playthrough would scare them off (not realizing they can get the mechanics in the first 30 minutes). So, basically it is to have the rules/mechanics get explained in the first video and continue the playthrough in the second. This is similar to how Rahdo does his videos.

I've enjoyed each of my three plays so far, though I do generally shy away from emphasizing my opinion on paid content like this. I can tell you I will certainly be playing this more once the final version is released :)

@@JonGetsGames Thanks for the reply. Yeah i get it. That's one of the things that wasn't brought up in Rodney's paid previews video. You never see a bad preview/review if it's paid. I really enjoy your videos though in helping in making a purchase or not.

well even Rodney didn't have paid reviews he also choose to be neutral when comes to opinion on games, his explaination is let us decide by our own instead of being influenced by him
